Research Compliance - Undergraduate Student Intern

What You Will Do
Be part of Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) Human Subjects Protection Program (HSPP). The HSPP has an entry-level opportunity for an Undergraduate Student who is motivated, has excellent communication skills, and who is interested in learning about human subjects research regulations.
The HSPP is committed to the protection of human subjects in LANL research, and the Student Intern will contribute to the program's efforts to implement best practices in research oversight and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will work with the HSPP Coordinator on tasks such as providing administrative support for the program, creating submission templates, reviewing regulatory guidance, and conducting small research projects.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

• Provide documentation of acceptance into an undergraduate program.
• Enroll in and successfully complete a minimum of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester (or the equivalent of full time enrollment).
• Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale. Note: Students must provide the program coordinator with current, official transcripts annually to remain eligible. See the Annual Transcript & Salary Review Process section for additional information.
• Pass a new employment drug test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
• Demonstrated proficiency using basic computer tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for business communications.
• Reliable internet is required for teleworking.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience and/or education in fields that use human subjects research methodologies (e.g., psychology, linguistics, sociology) or fields that focus on ethics (e.g., philosophy, health science ethics).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Attention to detail.

Education/Experience:
• Student must be enrolled in an undergraduate program with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for teleworking from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Telework is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
