The Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of Georgetown University Medical Center, seeks to prevent, treat and cure cancers by linking scientific discovery, expert and compassionate patient care, quality education and partnership with the community guided by the principle of cura personalis - “care for the whole person.” Georgetown Lombardi is the research engine driving clinical cancer research at MedStar Health in the D.C. Metro area and northern New Jersey.
Job Overview
The Research Associateis a scientist/investigator with a passion for academic research and teaching and an interest in forwarding research into the molecular interactions between cancer and heart disease. Important responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• In collaboration with the PI, design, organize, and conduct highly innovative studies of genetic and epigenetic factors regulating heart failure and cancer metastasis, using standard molecular biology techniques and a variety of experimental systems including animal models and cell culture
• Teach students and other junior members of the lab
• Manage genetically modified animal colonies
• Support extramural grant application efforts within the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting Dr. Nanette Bishopric within the Department of Oncology, the Research Associatesupports the overall mission of the Breast Cancer Research Interest group, and collaborates within the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center community with the goal of creating innovative and non-cardiotoxic cancer treatments.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Master's degree - preference for a PhD in molecular biology or related field
• 5 years of experience in academic research
• Strong scientific reasoning and creativity
• Excellent ability to organize, analyze and interpret experimental results
• Serious interest in breast cancer and heart disease and their interaction at the molecular level
• Diligence in accomplishing goals and overcoming obstacles with minimal supervision
• Good English writing skills and ability to write and produce figures for manuscripts
• Proficiency in designing new experimental methods and tools
• Solid and up-to-date understanding of research questions and experimental goals
