In October 2021, we launched our new 'Food Club & Opportunity Hub' to expand efficient, impactful healthy food assistance with the on-site integration of other pathway programs. More recently, we announced a partnership with Dwelling Place to help address the affordable housing crisis here in Holland. This July, we publicly launched our expansion of Lakeshore Food Rescue ( www.lakeshorefoodrescue.org).

Position Details

Position: Part-Time, at least 16 hours weekly. Shifts focused on Fridays and Saturdays
Store hours are Monday - Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm
Reporting to: Resale Donations Lead
Compensation: $14 to $16 per hour
Benefits: Part time positions do not qualify for a full benefits package

About the Position

The Resale Associate job is an opportunity to work on a small and dedicated team while supporting essential community programs. This position supports daily operations of the CAH Resale Store sales floor, and its primary goal is to create a welcoming and professional environment for in-kind donors, customers and volunteers. Key responsibilities include in-kind donation intake and sorting, maintaining a clean and organized sales floor, creating retail displays, and helping prepare items to move from processing to the sales floor. This position will require multitasking, flexibility, and a desire to continuously improve both personal and organizational performance.    

The Resale Store is a powerful part of the financial engine that keeps all of our work running. Every purchase, donation, and hour of volunteer service turns into thousands of meals served, workshops provided, and connections made. While its core purpose is to fuel our work across all of our programs, it also provides furniture, clothing, and other material needs to the neighbors we meet through our Outreach and Resource Navigation work.
Regular Tasks in this Role
    • Assist with daily operations of the sales floor, including but not limited to appropriate pricing of products, merchandising, displays and rotation of inventory of the sales floor
    • Assist with intake of donated items, providing excellent customer service to donors
    • Operate a computerized cash register system and ensure accuracy in cash register operations
    • Lead volunteers in specific duties and address questions and issues that arise
    • Maintain a clean, neat, and organized sales floor, sales counter and processing area
    • Assist in determining the usefulness of donated items for resale, repair, repurposing and recycling
    • Stock and arrange displays. Ensure a speedy and organized transition of donated items into sales floor ready items. 
    • Field customer questions and concerns in person and via phone. 
    • Ensure customers have a great experience while shopping
Qualifications
    • Strong interpersonal skills, enjoy interacting with a variety of people
    • Prior retail or customer service experience
    • Ability to operate computerized cash register system
    • Basic computer skills: Email, Google/Microsoft Office programs
    • Interest in creating and setting up appealing product displays
    • Ability to anticipate and meet the needs of customers
    • Integrity, positive attitude, and self-directed, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks without direct supervision
    • Proficiency in Spanish preferred
Other Factors
    • This position requires standing for long periods of time
    • The position requires the ability to bend, lift and twist on a regular basis
    • This position requires the ability to lift 40 - 50 lbs
