We are seeking a highly motivated Renovation Team Laborer to join our Construction/Renovation Team within our Project Management Department here at Fairlawn in Champaign, IL. The ideal candidate will embody Fairlawn's core values: Be Kind, Own It, Be Flexible, and Always Improve.


The overall objectives for this role will be to assist with carpentry & remodeling duties across a wide range of property types, while providing top notch customer service. The ideal candidate will have superior attention to detail and the ability to assist with a wide range of construction activities.


What will you do?

  • Exemplify the core values of Be Kind, Be Flexible, Own It and Always Improve
  • Assist with a variety of carpentry tasks ranging from framing, trim, & installing hardware, to window installations to full residence remodels
  • Maintain a clean job site, move appliances, organize tools and maintain job trailer
  • Run to stores, supply houses and lumberyards for tools and materials
  • Unload trucks; store and stock materials
  • Paint structures and woodwork, drywall and plaster, perform light masonry work
  • Use hand and power tools while ensuring tools and equipment are maintained and repaired
  • Participate in residence turnover including direct participation in turning units and renovation projects
  • Directly handle a wide range of repairs including plumbing, appliances, electrical, roofing inspection/minor roof repairs
  • Maintain good rapport with current and prospective residents
  • Follow company policies regarding necessary approvals for any job-related expenditures
  • Comply with all OSHA regulations and any applicable laws regarding health, safety, or environment
  • Learn and comply with all Fair Housing rules (we provide training!)
  • Pivot, roll up your sleeves, and jump in where needed!

Requirements

Who you are - We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have at least one year of working in construction, trades, agriculture or like industry
  • Have a High School diploma or GED
  • Are proficient with relevant technology and can easily adapt to changing technology
  • Are familiar with remodeling repairs including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing inspection/minor roof damage a plus but not required
  • Have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Have superior attention to detail, high energy, and positive attitude
  • Can work independently and work closely with other team members
  • Have the ability to work overtime as needed during high demand times and capacity shortages
  • Have ethical and professional conduct and integrity beyond reproach

Some additional things you will need:

  • Valid driver's license and dependable vehicle
  • Availability to work longer hours and weekends during prime leasing season and turnover
  • Must be able to complete the physical functions of the position, including the ability to lift/move up to 50lbs

Physical Requirements:

  • Routinely lifts, carries and moves materials weighing 75+ pounds
  • Frequent changes into/out of personal protection equipment
  • Exposure to air/water pollution, routinely lifts, carries and routinely lifts, carries and moves materials weighing 75 pounds
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
  • Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, ropes, poles and the like requiring the use of both feet or legs and hands or arms
  • Driving is the operation of a motorized passenger vehicle or other vehicles such as tractor trailers, buses, equipment (e.g. forklifts, golf carts, riding mowers
  • Pulling, Pushing and Reaching overhead to move objects at work site in all direction including overhead
