Renewable Term Instructor or Lecturer of English-Writing
Location:
University of Oklahoma, Norman Campus
Open Date:
Jan 24, 2024
Description:

The First-Year Composition Program (FYC), Department of English, in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for Instructor or Lecturer of Writing. We seek three instructors with promising records of teaching writing to begin Fall 2024.

The position is a full-time, nine-month appointment with a standard teaching assignment of four courses per semester, to be taught in person. Faculty teach first-year composition courses (ENGL 1113 and 1213) that fulfill the University of Oklahoma’s General Education requirements.  Other teaching opportunities are possible commensurate with scholarly expertise and teaching experience. Service to the First Year Composition program is expected, with opportunities for faculty to mentor, participate in program assessment, engage in professional development, and other tasks. The standard distribution of effort is 80% teaching and 20% service. Applicants holding a MA degree (Instructor) receive a starting salary of $50,000; those holding the PhD (Lecturer) receive a starting salary of $52,000.

Though the position is untenured, it is renewable every 5 years. After the first renewal, faculty become eligible to apply for a promotion to Senior Instructor or Lecturer.  After the second renewal, promoted faculty become eligible to apply for a promotion to Distinguished Instructor or Lecturer. Successful promotions require a strong record of teaching and service.
