JOB DESCRIPTION
Wood is currently recruiting for a talented Assistant Project Managerto join our diverse team of professionals. Ideally, the role will be seated in Tucker office, but we will consider qualified applicants in any US city where Wood has a presence.
The Assistant Project Manager will oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work, permitting strategy, environmental impact assessments and mitigation planning, and regulatory compliance. Whilst this role will have a particular focus on solar and energy storage project developments it may also include involvement in wind, transmission and hybrid projects.
This role will play a key part in growing our Clean Energy team who are supporting clean energy project developers across the Americas and will support both private and public clients. Our team is on the leading edge of innovative project designs, novel technology implementation, and new markets. Our clients include some of the largest players in the space, from multi-national Independent Power Producers to regionally-focused niche developers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supporting and lead the delivery of Renewable Energy project development scopes for key clients in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate comprehensive technical reports, Plans of Development, mitigation and construction monitoring plans, review contributing sections of environmental compliance documentation for accuracy, context, and reasonableness.
  • Ensure regulatory requirement compliance pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, reporting, and record compliance and retention.
  • Lead and coordinate environmental and entitlement permitting efforts with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
  • Prepare and review technical reports to facilitate environmental and entitlement permits.
  • Provide technical and logistical support to Wood and subcontractor field personnel
  • Attend and facilitate stakeholder meetings and public hearings.
  • Manage project environmental constraints identification and impact analyses, preparing NEPA Technical Reports such as community impact assessments, environmental justice and limited English proficiency analysis, parks and recreational resources analysis (including Section 4(f) evaluations), indirect and cumulative impacts assessments, feasibility studies, public involvement support, and other planning and coordination for Renewable Energy projects.
  • Manage scopes using internal and / or subcontracted Wood discipline experts including but not limited to:
    • Site survey and field work including topo, biological, environmental, etc.
    • Preliminary project design / layouts including energy yield assessments and hybrid system sizing and design
    • Geotechnical and hydrological investigation and modelling
    • Interconnection application creation and process management
    • Due Diligence
    • Feasibility studies
  • Manage projects in coordination with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of internal technical staff, as well as subcontractors, in all phases of the execution and delivery of environmental compliance and permitting requirements for Renewable Energy projects.
  • Regularly and accurately reporting the status of projects to team management.
  • Contribute to business development activities and assist in securing new opportunities for the company.
  • Participation at site visits and meetings in the USA
  • Ensuring health, safety and environmental considerations are integral to the delivery of projects and project tasks.
  • Disseminate knowledge and experiences to other team members and supporting the development of the team and team members.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering or equivalent relevant experience; PMP or CAPM certification an asset.
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting wind, solar, environmental, entitlement permitting or planning projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with project management, client relationship management, subcontractor management and interaction with regulatory agencies.
  • Business development skills with a proven track record of developing project opportunities and maintaining successful client relationships; strong existing client relationships and professional contacts are highly desirable;
  • Established experience coordinating with clients, regulatory permitting and resource agencies, and technical staff required.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by Wood's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of major federal statutes and implementing regulations, including NEPA, FERC, USACE, etc.
  • Excellent communication (written and spoken) in English, with the ability to engage and interface with various stakeholders
  • Must have the ability to prepare high quality, concise documents to convey project progress, status and financial information to internal and external project stakeholders
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Valid driving license for use with in USA
  • Must be US Citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood.
