Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Campus Applications Application Administrator.

About the Opportunity

The Campus Applications Application Administrator is responsible for the design, development, installation, implementation, modification, support, and decommission of new or existing software applications and servers. Functions may include short and long-term planning for modernization of systems, analyzing functional and systems requirements, developing application architecture and design, writing code applets, working with users to test, debug, and troubleshoot applications, assuring software and systems quality and functionality, integrating hardware and software components, writing and maintaining documentation, evaluating new and improved software applications, and ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and document standards for server infrastructure.
  • Plan and execute server hardware and software/database upgrades.
  • Identify opportunities for optimizing managed printing operations.
  • Collaborate with vendors and other ITS departments to provide cost information for management decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other Application Administrators to ensure seamless integration of managed systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to server infrastructure supporting managed printing.
  • Keep an up-to-date inventory of server hardware and software components managed by Campus Applications.
  • Provide training to end users as needed.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems related to servers and applications.
  • Respond to customer tickets related to server and service requests.
  • Collaborate with other Application Administrators to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Serve as the chief subject matter expert for campus printing, .
  • Collaborate closely with print management teams to ensure server infrastructure meets current and future needs.
  • Foster relationships with external partners, vendors, and industry experts to stay informed about best practices and innovations.
  • Collaborate with other Application Administrators to support and optimize various systems within the department.
  • Oversee change the management process by creating, submitting, and managing well-documented change requests for supported systems. Once approved, ensure the successful completion of the work, either personally or in collaboration with vendor support staff.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training, education and experience in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of combined experience in the following:
    • Experience supporting server based applications
    • Extensive experience with systems administration, database, reporting, and scripting
    • Practical, on-the-job experience in Information Technology. This experience should include communicating technical information to a non-technical audience. Strong preference for individuals with experience in a higher education setting supporting faculty, staff, and students.
    • Collaborating with business stakeholders to understand the requirements and objectives of enterprise applications.
    • Designing end-to-end solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements, considering integration, scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
    • Track record of successfully delivering enterprise-scale solutions.
  • Experience administering server based applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Server platforms
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and provide innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience developing processes, procedures, and controls to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Ability to follow and understand market trends and customer needs related to managed printing, housing and similar systems
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing customer feedback, conducting user research, and translating insights into actionable requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships.
