Cover for any employee in both Production and Packing for PTO, Leave, Call-off, etc.  Properly communicate line status to employees for efficient startups, changeovers, and shutdowns. Train with new and temporary employees, as well as troubleshoot minor issues with operators and mixers. Communicate properly with all support departments as necessary to ensure efficient and effective production runs. Verify all information about ingredients, line speed, and settings/equipment are correct; and ensure that all products are produced to all company, customer, and quality standards. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for learning ALL positions across Production & Packing to cover any open position as needed.
  • Must carry a company issued radio at all times, break relief is the first contact for operator, mixer, and other minor issues. Issues should be reported clearly to the correct personnel (ie. Maintenance, sanitation, shipping, quality assurance) if the issue requires them, to ensure quick response to issues impacting production. All issues involving extended downtimes, safety, or foreign materials should be brought immediately to the production supervisors and appropriate support departments.  
  • Relief should communicate with each other to coordinate all changes in line status such as changeovers, start up time, and end time to the team members in your area. Proper communication of issues to coworkers or the proper department(s) (ie. Sanitation, Maintenance, or Quality Assurance) as needed through use of radio’s or overhead PA system. All positions are part of a team and must communicate and work together to ensure a safe and efficient work flow.
  • Assist team members regardless of position if help is needed to ensure safe and efficient production runs. Help team members, when possible, to troubleshoot issues before involving support departments and/or production supervisors.
  • Report any products that are visually out of company and quality standards to the production supervisors.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized work area. Ensure that all waste has been cleaned up and placed into waste bins or animal feed bins by team members. Remove all animal feed bins, and empty them into the Bakery Feeds trailer at the appropriate shift change or product changeover times to ensure proper reporting of waste.
  • Know, understand, and follow safe operating procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Perform all tasks and duties required to ensure production and efficiency standards are met.
  • Actively participate with the team, through problem solving, planning, and team decision-making with individual accountability.
  • Ensure the proper set-up for the next shift and communicate to them all information relevant to the manufacturing process.
  • Perform training of new techs, temporary employees, operators, and break reliefs; and assist in other training activities which support the manufacturing process.
  • Flexibility in job assignments based on production needs, as designated by a supervisor.
  • Ensure all company assets including but not limited to machinery, tools, and the facility; are accounted for and kept in a safe, clean, and well maintained condition.
  • Make all necessary machinery & equipment adjustments and performs all tasks & duties necessary for efficient start-ups, daily operation, change-over and shut-downs.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Previous work history in a food manufacturing facility is preferred.
  • Good communication skills, in English.
  • Ability to read and write in English, and use of basic math and timekeeping.
  • Able to make logical decisions.
