We are currently looking to add a Relief Asst. Control Room Operator/Lab Tech/MC at MMWEC's Stony Brook Power Plant in Ludlow, Massachusetts. This is a bargaining unit position working rotating shifts.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position is responsible for supporting the Control Room Operator in safely and efficiently controlling and operating boilers, gas and steam turbines, and associated equipment during an assigned shift. This can be done either from the Control Room or from local control stations near the equipment.
- This position may also fill in as needed for the Auxiliary Operator role and may be assigned to work as a lab tech or helper in the mechanical or I&E maintenance departments.
- While reporting to the Shift Supervisor, this position takes functional direction from the Control Room Operator for specific tasks as required.
- The main responsibility is to work in coordination with the Control Room Operator and/or the Auxiliary Operator to operate generating units and all other necessary equipment for the efficient and safe operation of the generating station.
- Other duties may include regenerating demineralizers, performing activities in the demineralizer room, conducting routine lab tests, and adding chemicals to systems as needed, especially when working as a Lab Tech.
- As a Relief, this position will assist mechanics or I&E techs as a helper when not filling in for operational roles or working as a Lab Tech.
- In the absence of the Control Room Operator, this position may be required to oversee the Control Room.
- This position is also responsible for DOT-related gas pipeline duties and is therefore subject to a DOT-compliant drug testing program.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a Massachusetts 2nd or 3rd Class Engineer's license.
- Desired qualifications include mechanical ability, along with experience in electrical and controls, and a good understanding of computers.
- Must be capable of obtaining certification through Veriforce for various phases of gas pipeline operations and maintenance.
