Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
The Release Train Engineer facilitates program level processes and execution, drives continuous development, manages risks, and escalates impediments. Accountable for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of value through the program.
Guides the transition to and implementation of a scaling framework for teams of teams to optimize value delivery for a program.
Coaches Product Manager on effective Program Backlog creation and grooming.
Facilitates sessions with Program Architect and Application Delivery Manager to develop technical runway.
Leads and facilitates Program Increment (PI) events as necessary and ensures the teams are achieving value from them (e.g., PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums (SoS), Program Reviews, Portfolio/Program refinement).
Helps the program identify and understand risks, dependencies, and impediments.
Removes impediments or guides the team to remove impediments that may obstruct the completion of the team's projects and sprint goals.
Coaches the teams, leaders, and scrum masters about the combination of Lean and Agile management practices and ideologies.
Creates an environment that facilitates positive team health as well as provide guidance and management to all workers to ensure goals are met.
Helps the teams to continuously improve their interactions, practices, and processes.
Drives continuous improvements, such as: stagnant or variable velocity, moving items from sprint to sprint, breaking work into smaller pieces, reducing work in progress (WIP), etc.
Monitors and reports on the success of the program teams.
Gives feedback to the teams, based on metrics, observation, and input from others.
Understanding which metrics are beneficial and should be tracked, how these metrics should be interpreted and how the program course can be corrected.
Collaborate with Agile COE and ePMO to maintain solid program execution and operational excellence.
Communicates and collaborates with product and solution management, product owners and other stakeholders to guarantee the alignment of strategy and execution.
Escalates issues to the Program Manager if the teams are unable to resolve skill and knowledge gaps and external dependencies for upcoming work.
