JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures timely and accurate billing to third party payers, patients, employers including correction and transmission of claims; timely and accurate placement of insurance and patient balances within the IC/OH billing system and the Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) Information System.

Processes all incoming billing mail including cash, checks, charges, major medical insurance carriers, workers’ compensation bills, Medicaid bills, and Explanation of Benefits. Performs daily posting to all accounts. Prepares all cash and checks for transfer into corporate checking account.

Addresses patient, employer, payer and JMH billing inquiries.

Supervises Patient Service Representatives. Maintains personnel requirements for staff including job descriptions, performance appraisals, disciplinary action, continuing education, and proficiency testing for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Provides for employee selection, orientation, training, and review. Provides appropriate staffing to perform departmental functions to meet the expectations of departmental customers. Ensures consistent application of all departmental and JMH policies.

Oversees all billing transactions and advises staff when any area does not meet the expected standard. Trains staff on registration, visit coding, billing, payment, and AR capture. Trains all staff on coding of visits and reviews the coding performed by providers and staff and provides consultation and education if the coding is not appropriate.

Consistently greets and treats clients in a professional manner as evidenced by demonstrating concern for clients in a helpful and positive way while maintaining confidentiality.

Reviews all payer bulletins to keep current on information regarding billing and reimbursement including state and federal guidelines.

Assists Director and JMH Management Staff with determination of up-to-date charges for clinic. Also assists in the identification of undercharges and overcharges in accordance with accepted policies.

Maintains appropriate documentation for clinic and JMH financial reporting purposes.

Reviews and processes weekly Credit Balance Reports. Researches accounts to determine appropriate refund of credit balances. Contacts payers by telephone and mail to determine appropriate refunds.

Assists bad debt agencies with collection of bad debt cases and coordinates accounting information according to JMH and clinic policies.

Performs other duties as required.

Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of previous insurance billing, collection and coding experience required.
