Summary

To coordinate all aspects of USDA Regulatory Labeling in company channels: Retail, Foodservice, International including both Fresh and Further Processed, East, West and Midwest facilities.
Provide guidance and technical leadership on food labeling issues, respond to consumer requests for product information. Work closely with Marketing, R&D and Legal to ensure label process integrity.

 

This is a Remote Position.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Source of data for these aspects of product labels
    • Nutritional labeling
    • Ingredient labeling, Allergens
    • Product Claims: Low Fat, Good Source of Protein, Gluten Free
    • Animal Raising Claims: Organic, Cage Free, No GMO, Pasture Raised
    • Direct to consumer novel projects
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of current food labeling regulations, regulatory activities and trends. Work cross functionally to implement label changes as dictated by USDA or relevant FDA guidance.
  • Respond directly to CRFI – customer requests for information. Large Accounts require significant exchanges of product information regarding nutrient content and labeling claims.
  • Manage USDA document exchange process to obtain official label approvals.

Minimum Education

Minimum B.S. in Food Science, Nutrition, RD Dietetics or related field or equivalent years of experience and training.

Experience Requirements

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of related experience in USDA food labeling
  • Experience managing data in corporate Enterprise systems.
  • Hands on experience with label generation software, skilled in creating print on demand labels in various systems.
  • Working knowledge of food formulation and corresponding plant production processes.
  • Experience in FSIS food labeling requirements and pre-market label authorization process. Experience with AMS Organic and CN Child Nutrition a plus.

Experience Preferred

10 years in food product labeling, nutrition, USDA label approval process preferred.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

May need to access files, supplies and equipment.

When in a plant environment:  Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.

May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.

May be exposed to all chemicals used in pork, food, processing facility.

Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
