Unit openings are available in the ED, Telemetry/Med Surge, ICU, Behavioral Health, and more! Short Summary:
The Registry RN is preferred to have at least 2 years of experience and is employed by an agency or a hospital to work on an as-needed basis. One key requirement is the flexibility to work irregular schedules.
The Registry RN assumes the responsibility for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care following established standards, policies, and procedures. The successful candidate will also use evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making, compassion, and skilled communication to lead the effort in creating the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
Job Requirements:
  • Documents assessment, diagnoses, plan, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record based on developmental level and age.
  • Directs the implementation of nursing care by non-professional staff.
  • Makes regular rounds and models effective patient interactions with non-professional staff.
  • Carries out physician’s orders according to acceptable nursing care standards and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Promotes, establishes, and maintains the therapeutic milieu. Assumes responsibility for patient care and management of the unit in the absence of the Charge RN, with supervisory support via telephone, and immediate on-site availability as needed.
  • Provides basic patient/family education to individuals or groups, as appropriate, to increase patient knowledge of medications, health/hygiene skills, and disease management/prevention to promote independent living skills.
  • Serves as an effective member of the treatment team, implements basic nursing care plans, engages patients in therapeutic interactions, and supports unit milieu/programs to assist patients in meeting individual goals.
  • Maintains accountability for medications, assigned medication room, and the security of assigned unit keys.
  • Administers medications and treatments orally, rectally, internally, or by injection.
  • Performs technical Nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations after a demonstration for competency.
  • Documents and reports pertinent observations.
  • Communicates orally and in writing to other team members’ pertinent information. Documents according to facility policy.
  • Responds to emergencies to ensure the safety of individuals; Follows safety and Infection Control Procedures of the facility.
  • Monitors individuals regarding treatments and procedures.
  • Collects samples for laboratory examination and performs routine lab tests on samples, as required.
  • Counsels individuals with specific health goals.
  • Assists other staff in turning/repositioning individuals to administer treatments.
  • Ensures that supplies are available.
  • Administers medications, immunizations, and treatments; observe individuals for unusual symptoms and reactions.
  • Conducts physical assessment of individual’s health needs and implements appropriate action.
  • Implements and monitors case management care plans.
  • Instructs and assists individuals in meeting their health care needs.
  • Prepares, maintains, and reviews individual records and assessments within the Electronic Health Record.
  • May participate in quality assurance reviews.
  • Complies with all State/Federal/Local standards; Facility Policy, ICF Standards, and state Nurse Practice Act.
  • Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule following agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to, actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Diploma, associate (ADN), bachelor (BSN), or masters (MSN)
  • Current BLS certification.
  • CPI certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to work irregular schedules
  • Basic knowledge of nursing procedures and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of the state Nursing Practice Act, Rules, and Regulations of the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State.
  • Ability to provide basic professional and individualized nursing care to a group of patients in a state mental health hospital.
  • Knowledge of human behavior, social interaction, and basic interpersonal relations theories.
  • Basic nursing skills such as health assessment, treatment planning, and evaluation.
  • Ability to formulate a nursing diagnosis or problem list from assessment data.
  • Ability to respond with basic skills in emergencies.
  • Ability to obtain certification for Basis Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and ability to perform CPR in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to complete Treatment, Intervention, and Protection Strategies (TIPS) before working in the patient care unit.
  • Physical and emotional ability to manage sudden and extreme acts of aggression.
  • The ability to speak, read and write English to communicate effectively with patients and their families.
  • Skills in communicating effectively with subordinate staff to provide effective clinical supervision.
