1st Shifts: 6:45am-3:15pm OR 6:45am-7:15pm
2nd Shifts: 2:45pm-11:15pm OR 10:45am-11:15pm
3rd Shifts: 10:45pm-7:15am OR 6:45pm-7:15am

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, and New Hampshire Hospital has full-time openings for Registered Nurse's I-III.

SUMMARY:

Registered Nurse I: Under the direct supervision of the Unit Nursing Coordinator, the RN I utilizes the Nursing Process to manage patients' presenting behavior and assist in meeting immediate and long- term needs for help. Reacts to patient care situations and uses knowledge to inform and guide attempts to find solutions to problems. Practices within standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies.

Registered Nurse II: Under the direct supervision of the Unit Nursing Coordinator, the RN II utilizes the Nursing Process to manage patients' presenting behavior and assist in meeting immediate and long- term needs for help. Responds to patient care situations and uses knowledge and experience to find solutions to problems. Practices within standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies.

Registered Nurse III: Under the direct supervision of the Unit Nursing Coordinator, the RN III utilizes the Nursing Process to manage patients' presenting behavior and assist in meeting immediate and long-term needs for help. Anticipates patient care situations and uses knowledge, experience and expertise to proactively plan solutions to anticipated problems. Practices within standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Registered Nurse I:

Education: Graduation from a recognized nursing program with either affiliate or postgraduate courses and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics and psychiatric nursing.

Experience : Experience is limited to that required for registration.

License/Certification : Current license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An employee may be required to work additional hours beyond their normal work shift, engaged in work that is characteristic of their classification, in order to meet patient care needs/safe staffing levels, established by the Nursing Department of New Hampshire Hospital.

Registered Nurse II:

Education: Graduation from a recognized nursing program with either affiliate or postgraduate courses and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics and psychiatric nursing.

Experience: One year's experience as a registered nurse in a setting equivalent to the position assigned.

License/Certification: Current license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An employee may be required to work additional hours beyond their normal work shift, engaged in work that is characteristic of their classification, in order to meet patient care needs/safe staffing levels, established by the Nursing Department of New Hampshire Hospital.

Registered Nurse III:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in nursing, human services, psychology, or a related field.

Experience: One year of experience as a registered nurse in a setting similar or equivalent to the position assigned.

OR

Education: Graduation from a recognized nursing program and possession of an Associate’s degree in nursing, human services, psychology, or a related field.

Experience: Two years' experience as a registered nurse in a residential, nursing home, long-term care facility, or similar setting.

AND

License/Certification: Current license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire. Current certification in CPR.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be certified by the American Nurses Association or an organization recognized by or affiliated with the ANA in a specialty that is consistent with the job accountabilities and appropriate to the institution or agency in which the vacancy exists, e.g., Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse, Gerontological Nurse, Maternal and Child Health Nurse, Oncology, Wound Care, etc…

Responsibilities:

Registered Nurse I

  • Functions as Nurse-in-Charge in the absence of the Nurse Specialist.
  • When in charge role, makes shift nursing care assignments based on assessment of patient needs and acuity to assure appropriate level of care is provided.
  • Provides direct nursing care through application of the Nursing Process to patient care management by assessing immediate and long-term nursing needs.
  • Collects patient data by interview and/or observations to provide a basis for nursing assessment.
  • Completes nursing assessment and diagnoses on patient admission and as often as clinically indicated to provide a basis for nursing care.
  • Completes patient assessments prior to authorizing Seclusion/Restraint in an emergency situation.
  • May perform venipuncture to collect blood for laboratory testing.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to formulate an individualized treatment plan.
  • Defines patient problems, identifies goals and nursing interventions to assist in formulation of treatment plan.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the patient's care plan and documents patient's response to provide for revision of treatment plan and readiness for discharge.
  • Coordinates and supervises subordinates in their provision of patient care through the use of patient assignment, staff meetings, performance appraisals, etc., to provide safe and quality nursing care.
  • Administers medication and treatment according to Nursing Department Standards to assure a safe level of treatment.
  • Educates patient/family/significant other regarding unit routines, rationale for interventions, medications, treatments and health care needs and documents same to prepare patients for discharge.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team to plan for discharge and documents the nurses' involvement.
  • Evaluates and collaborates with Nursing Managers and unit staff to effect positive therapeutic milieu.
  • Monitors patient's medical problems, reports findings to Internal Medicine Department, carries out medical treatments as indicated by Nursing Practice and as ordered by the physician to provide safe quality nursing care.
  • Participates in activities to improve workflow and patient care.
  • Supervises mental health workers in assisting patients to carry out Activities of Daily Living, milieu management, and various assigned patient care tasks.
  • Is responsible for and actively participates in own skill development via academic course work, seminars, and training programs to improve overall contribution to patient care and professional development.

Registered Nurse II

Registered Nurse III

Supervisors Workplace Safety Accountabilities

Ensures compliance with established hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures by:

  • Maintaining competency in hospital approved Crisis Management Program (CMP) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques for adults, children, infants and AED training.
  • Conducting periodic (minimum quarterly basis) on site reviews.
  • Completing competency-based review, when applicable.
  • Providing on the spot reinforcement/training on safety issues; referring staff to formal training programs, as appropriate.
  • Recording safety related initiatives for annual reporting.
