The main duty of this position will be to provide communicable disease (CD) surveillance, investigation, prevention, and control for reportable communicable diseases of public health significance in accordance with the Code of Virginia § 32.1-116.3. This position will work within the Tuberculosis program, which includes tracking and identifying individuals with tuberculosis (TB), ensuring medication regimen adherence, and monitoring the treatment plan of care for TB patients who do not have another source of care. Responsibilities of this position also include case management and direct client care services to perform nursing assessment, performing lab test, specimen collection (including phlebotomy), care plan development, and medication administration. Direct client care is performed independently in the clinic, offices, schools and other community settings as needed, working as a member of the public health multidisciplinary team. Nursing duties are performed in accordance with local and VDH protocols and guidelines as well as VDH Nursing Directives and programmatic protocols. This position is responsible to collecting client level data and for monitoring updates and trends in client level data for review, charting, and/or monitoring within VDH's or other health systems' epidemiological reporting or health record applications.
This position requires licensure as a RN in Virginia and must have current BLS-CPR certification. Must have experience with medication administration, injectables, and specimen collection. The incumbent must exercise sound nursing judgement, have effective verbal, written, interpersonal/physical assessment skills and be able to work with persons from multicultural and diverse backgrounds. Must be able to be fit tested in accordance with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) [Ref.2] regulations. Must be able to have work experience demonstrating decision making skills, patient teaching, interviewing, counseling as well as be able to analyze situations and problem. Experience in home visiting and case management is preferred. Working experience in use of computers and computer applications, including internet, MS Office-Word, Excel, MS Edge, Google and other cloud-based applications. May travel to client homes or hospital visits for medication administration and/or specimen collection, an occasional weekend and/or evening hour may be required. Communicable disease and/or experience in epidemiology a plus.
