Job Summary:
The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse Supervisor 1, NS-43 PICU. The successful candidate will:
- Plan, direct, and supervise nursing services on an assigned unit, including direct supervision of Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) and other staff.
- Direct the development and implementation of nursing care plans on a unit.
- Provide individual care, and function as an educator and nursing services expert.
- Assess work methods of nursing staff and provide feedback to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care delivered.
- Coordinate medical and nursing care needs with other health care providers and departments.
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment and unit compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Monitor nursing care quality standards, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Attend and participate in medical committees to represent nursing staff needs and the individual population, and participate in writing of care standards.
- Identify staff training needs and collaborate with unit educators to develop and implement educational programs.
- Develop and implement orientation plans for new employees and participates in staffing decisions.
Required Qualifications:
- Promotion: possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State and two years of service as a Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC); or one year of service as a Registered Nurse 2 (T&RC).
- Open Competitive: possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and three years of post-licensure acute care clinical nursing experience.
- Substitution: a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a Master's Degree in Nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing
- Nationally recognized certification in their area of specialty required within first 3 years of assuming the role
Work Schedule:
Variable Days; 7:30am to 8:00pm
