Day - 10 Hour (United States of America)
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care, practicing in an evidence-based manner, within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The Special Procedures RN position requires expertise in providing moderate sedation across multiple modalities, while also supporting the cardiology department in providing care for patients undergoing stress testing, Cardioversions, TEE's, and EP procedures. Due to the nature of this role, an understanding and competence in all systems of the body is a must, as the role will have the RN working with Pulmonary, GI, Cardiac, Vascular and Radiology specialists. Experience, or the ability to be trained, in insertion of PICC lines, Midlines, accessing ports and utilization of ultrasound as indicated for insertion is required. This position requires the RN to be able to function as part of a team, as well as having the ability to work autonomously. In addition, the RN coordinates care with other providers and acts as a teacher to the patient and family to provide the knowledge and skills needed to manage their care and prevent complications.

Ability to adapt and work within different modalities that provide moderate sedation care and other specialized support to physicians and patients.
Capable of administering moderate sedation medication while closely monitoring patient's response and implementing nursing interventions as necessary.
Critically evaluates and uses good clinical judgement in stressful and/or emergent situations.
Screen patients for appropriate clinical information, accurately document vitals, condition, medications, and other relevant medical information using EMR system with respect to the individual patient's culture and values.
Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and monitors patient for adverse responses and side effects and has the knowledge and ability to intervene within their scope of practice.
Assesses patient/family level of understanding and documents information on clinical records.
Recognizes and communicates to proper authority ethical and legal issues relative to patient care; completes incident report.
Participates in non-clinical assignments which may include maintaining records, generating reports, and/or participating in special committees.
Capability to work in diagnostic imaging department that requires the wearing of a lead apron (e.g. fluoroscopy, CT, IR lab, etc.)
Works to support the achievement of department strategic and organizational goals.

Job Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • BSN required

Experience
  • Three years prior nursing experience required
  • Two years of critical care experience or moderate sedation required
  • Certified PICC Ultrasound Inserter (CPUI) preferred (must be acquired within 6 months of hire)
  • Moderate sedation and pharmacological knowledge

License/Certification
  • Current CA R.N. License
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS Certification
  • Certified PICC Ultrasound Inserter (CPUI) (within 6 months of hire)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills - Ability to read, write and understand the English language.

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and current trends in health care and hospital system organization and administration sufficient to provide clinical management, leadership, coordination, and operational direction for assigned areas of responsibility

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $61.92 - $75.10 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
