Job Title:Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Operating Room

Overview:
As a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Operating Room (Pediatric OR), you will play a critical role in delivering specialized care to pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures. Your responsibilities encompass a range of tasks, from preparing the Operating Room and collaborating with the surgical team to ensuring the safety and comfort of pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Preoperative Pediatric Assessment:
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments of pediatric patients, considering their unique medical histories, developmental stages, and psychosocial needs.
- Collaborate with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive preparation for pediatric surgeries.
Pediatric Operating Room Preparation:
- Set up and organize the Pediatric Operating Room, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are age-appropriate, sterile, and readily accessible.
- Verify and prepare pediatric-specific surgical instruments according to established protocols.
Pediatric Patient Preparation:
- Assist in the positioning and prepping of pediatric patients for surgery, maintaining a child-friendly and supportive environment.
- Administer preoperative medications as prescribed, considering the unique needs of pediatric patients.
Intraoperative Pediatric Support:
- Collaborate closely with the surgical team to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment for pediatric procedures.
- Anticipate the unique needs of pediatric patients during surgery, providing necessary assistance to maintain a sterile field and support the surgical team.
Pediatric Patient Advocacy and Safety:
- Monitor pediatric patients' vital signs and responses to surgical interventions, taking prompt action to address any deviations from the norm.
- Implement safety measures specific to pediatric patients to prevent complications.
Postoperative Pediatric Care:
- Assist in the transfer of pediatric patients to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or designated recovery areas.
- Monitor pediatric patients in the immediate postoperative period, addressing their unique recovery needs and coordinating care with other healthcare providers.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with the pediatric patient, parents, and the healthcare team, providing information and emotional support.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to optimize the care of pediatric surgical patients.
Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Operating Room Nursing Certification (CNOR) is preferred.
- Experience in pediatric nursing and/or Pediatric Operating Room settings is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of pediatric surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and perioperative nursing care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to provide direct patient care, including lifting and positioning pediatric patients.
- Fine motor skills for pediatric procedures.
- Visual and auditory acuity to assess and monitor pediatric patients.
Working Conditions: Primarily within the Pediatric Operating Room environment, which may involve exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
