Our hospital provides intensive interventions for youth with chronic and pervasive psychiatric and behavioral disorders, including substance abuse. POSITION SUMMARY
The Nurse is responsible for providing a variety of community mental health nursing services which focus on prevention, treatment, education, and rehabilitation of the physical and mental health of the client. The Nurse collaborates as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team (Treatment Team) to develop and implement effective treatment strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer health assessments and complete necessary forms.
- Administer and read TB tests.
- Referrals to appropriate health agencies
- Providing health education on a variety of topics to clients, including but not limited to general health care, medication, diabetes, safe sex, dual diagnosis, and nutrition.
- Provide resource materials.
- Technical consultation for Mental Health Workers
- Observes medication procedures and makes recommendations.
- One-on-One nursing counseling is needed.
- Keep staff appraised of any potential client issues.
- Medical records documentation as required.
Qualifications
- Attainment of at least 21 years of age.
- Education: LVN, PA, or RN licensure required. Possession of a valid license/certificate of registration issued by the Arizona Board of Nursing Education and Nurse registration is required. Possession of or ability to acquire valid Malpractice Insurance.
- Experience: Two years working with individuals with psychiatric disabilities.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in general and psychiatric nursing; medicines and narcotics and their effect upon the patient; theories of personality growth and development; available community resources. Understanding of community health nursing and psychiatric nursing methods and procedures. Ability to recognize and evaluate mental and emotional status; plan and evaluate a program of treatment administer treatments, medicines, and narcotics as prescribed; speak and write effectively; understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Special Skills: Demonstrated ability to work as a team player. Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver's license, clean driving record and personal automobile insurance. Hiring is contingent upon receiving DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance, a submission of a signed Criminal Record Statement (LIC 508), a TB test, and clearance on an employment physical. Current First Aid and CPR certification is preferred prior to employment.
