STATUS: Non-exempt; hourly.
All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department/site and SPSI.
JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse professional helps clients with a large variety of issues. They assist both individuals and families in coping with complex physical or mental health conditions. Nurses act as a liaison between the psychiatrist and various other parties including: clients, case manager supervisor, pharmacies, primary care physicians and their families. The nurse performs injections, answers question, obtains authorizations, and corresponds with pharmacies. It is important to be keenly aware of all services provided within the clinic and throughout the agency.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Engages in and develops trusting relationships with all staff, vendors, or clients to enhance employee employment satisfaction.
2. Abides by company rules and policy/procedure as well as helping with mission, vision and values of SPSI.
3. Attend all mandatory staff meetings, facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
4. Accurately record relevant client/vendor contacts and messages as well as communicates it with the staff it affects.
5. Assists employees with support so that it affects our clients in a positive way.
6. Works efficiently and effectively using EMR systems required such as Phoenix, Smart Care, Sentri.
7. Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of clients and employees record information as well as maintain SPSI’s code of ethics.
8. Completes all required documentation according to agency policy and procedures.
9. Work to continually improve skills seeking training in areas where needs have been identified.
10. Perform an in-depth mental and/or physical health analysis of the client.
11. Develop a detailed plan of action to meet the client’s needs, set goals, and find the necessary resources for the goals.
12. Keep comprehensive records of clients’ progress throughout the process, including every call, referral, and home visit.
13. Assist clients with psychological and social development and rehabilitation.
14. Address clients’ questions regarding psychiatric services and medications and contact psychiatrist on behalf of clients.
15. Schedule psychiatric services for case management clients and work with case managers in the scheduling process.
16. Coordinates referrals for blood work, monitor clients’ vital signs and coordinate with care with staff and psychiatrist.
17. Administer intramuscular medications or staff TB-Tests. Provide results or updates to the human resources department.
18. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records consistent with SPSI, SCCMHA and BABHA standards.
19. Accurately chart observations on assigned clients using correct charting format and terminology.
20. Assists in coordinating individual treatment planning including aftercare and recovery support services for each client.
21. Maintain your credentials and required trainings to satisfy your licensure and/or insurance otherwise immediate suspension of employment will be needed.
22. Maintain valid car insurance, driver’s license, and car registration always otherwise immediate suspension of employment will be needed.
23. Other duties as assigned.
MARGINAL JOB DUTIES
1. Works collaboratively to train all new staff as assigned based on the need of the department as needed.
2. Immediately report critical issues and work with appropriate staff to develop an intervention plan as needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Associate degree or bachelor degree in nursing or related field.
LICENSURE:Valid driver’s license and Registered Nurse license in the state of Michigan required.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one to three years’ nursing experience in a mental health/substance use setting preferred. Familiarity with DSM V and diagnostic techniques preferred.
SKILLS
Self-motivated and the ability to handle unforeseen problems and when to reach out for support and supervision. Does not wait to be told what to do, can work independently.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Exceptional organizational skills.
4. Sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities, mental illness and SUD.
5. Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others.
Aptitude in resolving issues and conflicts.
7. Fluent/ basic knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and other applications.
8. Maintains a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information.
9. Knowledge of general office machines, telephone systems, fax machine, PDF operations, and other information systems.

1. Must possess effective communication skills and act as a representative of SPSI and adhering to its mission, vision, and values. This includes external representation of local agencies.
2. Speak to clients in a respectful and calming manner, even if clients are agitated. Identify and resolve client conflicts/dissatisfaction issues as needed.
