Overview
Triage RN Job Description:
The IU Health Triage nurse performs care coordination tasks and professional nursing functions to assess the severity of the patient’s health concerns. Most often, written escalations guide their practice: determining the urgency of care needed, scheduling follow-up appointments or directing callers to on-call team members as needed.
As a Triage nurse, you will provide telephonic advice to IU Health patients when they call for clinical needs. By providing clinical advice and triaging clinical concerns after hours, you can help patients achieve better health outcomes. You will serve as an advocate for IU Health patients, while helping them get the care they need and connecting them with necessary resources community resources.
This is a remote position working from home after hours and weekends. Employees must complete onsite training and attend meetings in the office in Indianapolis, IN.

Key Responsibilities
- Collect information from patient callers to assess their condition.
- Make recommendations for further care.
- Provide education to patients over the phone.
- Consult with physicians about patient care needs.
- Work with medical records technology
- Refer patients to appropriate on-call team members.
- Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
