Inspired Solutions is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Madigan Army Medical Center's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This role involves assuming charge nurse responsibilities, providing critical care tasks and leadership, performing comprehensive age-specific nursing care, and overseeing complex medical cases. The responsibilities encompass documentation, patient advocacy, medication administration, hemodynamic monitoring, and communication with healthcare teams. The nurse also manages infection-prone procedures, collaborates with LPNs, ensures quality care, and responds adeptly to emergencies while adhering to the job description's parameters.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contract nurses perform clinical duties equivalent to military/government nurses, including charge nurse roles, orientation, and rotations within the clinical areas of MAMC, without exceeding their scope of practice.
- PICU nurses provide critical care, assessing, planning, and implementing age-specific nursing care, managing complex medical/surgical cases, administering medications, and documenting patient progress.
- Patient advocacy involves assessing knowledge levels, providing education, and documenting care plans targeted to age-specific needs.
- Managing hemodynamic monitoring, administering medications, and performing high-risk procedures such as catheter insertions and tube placements.
- Effective communication of patient information to charge nurses/physicians, verifying orders, and managing nursing care plans.
- Administering medications within nursing practice scope, excluding certain chemotherapy drugs without appropriate education.
- Responding to potential crises, initiating life-saving measures, operating emergency equipment, and participating in Rapid Response or code teams.
- Oversight of tissue/skin and organ donor banks, managing advanced procedures, and assisting with invasive procedures as per scope.
- Direct patient care includes various tasks like hygiene, mobilization, feeding, and linen changes.
- Registered nurses provide oversight for LPNs and unlicensed staff, collaborate with healthcare providers, and participate in research projects.
- Ensuring infection control protocols, handling breaches of standard procedures, and potential project officer roles.
- Nurses assisting with conscious sedation need appropriate training, and workload management involves redistributing staff based on patient needs.
- Effective interpersonal skills in patient interactions and emergency management, potentially serving in resuscitation or emergency teams.
- Assessing conditions for crises, knowledge of emergency drug pharmacology, and operating emergency equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned and in accordance with this PWS
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Pediatric Intensive Care Nurses RNs: Normal duty hours for the positions shall be 0700-1930 or 1900-0730 Monday thru Sunday to include weekends and Holidays. The HCWs shall record the time worked and report time in accordance with MTF policy
- Federal Holidays are considered work days. Not included in, or billable as work hours are lunch/ break periods, vacation/ sick leave (80 hours) are continuing medical education (CME) training attendance (up to 40 hours per year per FTE)
- All leave/ absences during normal work hours will be coordinated with and approved by the MTF Activity/ Department head/ supervisor

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Current, full, active, and unrestrictive license to practice as a Registered Nurse is required
- 1+ year experience working in the PICU as a Registered Nurse required
- Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree program from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) is required
- Current and updated certifications in CPR through the American Heart Association, BLS, and ALS through the American Red Cross required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider- Advanced; and STABLE, to be renewed every two years as required
