New Graduates 

 

New Registered Nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development. 

University Hospital's PACU unit recovers patients from a variety of procedure and surgical areas post-anesthesia. Our PACU houses 15 bays, day surgery has 23 pre-op rooms, and post-op has 25 rooms.

We are open Monday - Friday some on-call on the weekends and weeknights that is rotating with all staff.

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

• Day Surgery- IV starts, Patient Teaching/Education, Surgical knowledge base, ACLS, PALS
• PACU- epidurals, CADD pumps, vent management, art lines, assessment skills, lab draws, PCAs, pain/nausea management, ACLS, PAL

Unit Successes/Designations/National recognition:

• Magnet designation
• ERAS
• ERCP procedures
• Decreased surgical site infections by using Nose to Toes Kits (CHG wipes, oral & nasal swabs)

Qualifications 

 

• Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred. 
• Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse. 
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing       program. 
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. 
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
