Job description

Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) has been proudly serving our community since 1933 and is one of the original Planned Parenthood affiliates in the nation. 
 
We provide reproductive health care, health education and advocacy from our five health centers in Alhambra, Baldwin Park, Glendora, Highland Park, and Pasadena, in addition to our telehealth clinic.  We strive to ensurethesexual and reproductive health services we provide align withtheneeds ofthecommunities we serve. Our service area extends from Glendora to Glendale and fromtheSan Gabriel mountains totheSan Bernardino freeway, home to 24 communities and a diverse population of 1.4 million people. 
 
Today, PPPSGV sees over 60,000 patient visits per year and delivers over 15,000 opportunities for sex and relationship education in our schools and colleges.  
 
We offer safe and legal abortions.  We are committed to providing accurate, non-judgmental care and resources by helping our patients overcome financial, transportation, and other barriers to care.  In addition, we work with abortion funds and practical support network to support our patients.   Our abortion care has increased every year since 2018 with an average of 3,500 abortions per year.  We saw close to 4,000 abortion patients in 2022 alone, approximately 59 were out-of-state patients. 
 
As a Registered Nurse, you will provide nursing and medical care to patients seeking reproductive healthcare. This position will work 3 days (24 hours) per week and should be available to work Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and occasional Saturdays.
As a Registered Nurse, you will save lives while you:
    • Review client's medical history and screen out those with contraindications to various contraceptive methods
    • Provide clients with contraception and/or other medication according to standardized protocols
    • Educate clients on contraception, other medication, cancer screening, and STIs
    • Provide STI treatment according to standardized protocols, dispense other medications including antibiotics, antiviral, etc. per standing orders and maintain working knowledge of all medications used
    • Educate clients in a non-judgmental and pro-choice manner
    • Document all client interactions in the medical record, responsible for accuracy of all information entered
    • Follow PPPSGV RN Standardized Procedures and the PPPSGV Medical Protocols
    • Cross-train in Case Management and provide Case Management functions as needed
    • Work directly on Practice Management system for the electronic management of client information including but not limited to client tracking, coding, charting, logs etc.
    • Perform venipuncture and give injections
    • Perform moderate complexity lab tests (rh, pregnancy tests, HIV rapid tests, Hemoglobin, urinalysis)
    • Check emergency equipment (oxygen, emergency kit, ambu bag, defibrillator, anesthesia cart, gomco suction unit)
    • Perform phone triage during business hours
    • Share on-call coverage after hours/weekends
    • Monitor post-abortion clients recovering from analgesia, IV conscious sedation, and moderate sedation
    • Educate clients regarding postoperative instructions, contraception and annual health screenings
    • Be responsible for maintenance of narcotic log
    • Start IV's and Hep-Locks.
    • Triage all emergency situations.
    • Participate in emergency drills with health center staff
    • Assist with center flow and clean up.
    • Identify and assist in resolving issues regarding staffing and equipment needs.
    • Be willing to continuously learn and expand clinical knowledge base
    • Demonstrate clear knowledge and accountability of quality regulations and standards
    • Be proactive in team development and problem solving
    • To support risk and quality management by proactively communicating identified risks to supervisor in order to minimize risk when possible.
    • Comply with PPPSGVs Code of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and to act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations
We are looking for someone with the following:
    • Education:
    • R.N. with current California license and current BLS certification
    • A.C.L.S. certification (required within 60 days of hire)

    • Experience:  
    • One year of experience in reproductive or women's healthcare preferred

    • Other:           
    • Willing to work in all areas of the health center.
    • Must have excellent customer service skills and be committed to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction. Ability to meet established Agency quality and productivity metrics including visits per hour and RVU's per hour
    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all backgrounds.
    • Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently
    • Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and Saturdays
    • Ability to multi-task and to adapt to change
    • Ability to chart using electronic medical records
    • Must be physically able to assist in transferring patients
    • Must have the willingness and ability to adapt to change including advances in technology

$43 - $48 an hour
The hiring rate for this position is: $43- $48/hour + Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k Matching Program, Premium CALM account, holidays, paid time off, and more!
