The Registered Nurse provides direct and individualized nursing care to patients with various types of illness or trauma requiring emergency attention and must be able to recognize and effectively treat life-threatening conditions. The Registered Nurse is responsible for ensuring all emergency and related services are delivered in a manner consistent with the hospital's mission, vision, and ICARE values.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Performs triage, while considering both emergent physical and psychosocial elements; Displays professionalism while completing multiple, urgent tasks in a timely manner. Works directly with Providers; assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments
Must be able to function independently and be accountable for utilizing the nursing process. Prioritize and delegate tasks appropriately. Demonstrates ability to interpret critical data and changes in patient conditions.
Is knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition. Prepares, administers, and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with all policies and regulations.
Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provides referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment.
Performs all patient care activities based in accordance with recognized treatment protocols/procedures and current standards of practice. Works in collaboration with physicians and other caregivers to ensure all patients receive the appropriate level of care. Responsible to document, implement, and evaluate patient care activities and progress.
Demonstrates the clinical and critical thinking skills to perform complete head to toe assessment on all patients, including infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Able to assess for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect for all age specific groups. Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies. Provides information on available resources when a need is identified.
Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of the patient and family, communicates with Case Manager or Social Worker regarding inpatient and/or discharge needs. Works with other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's treatment and care.
Collaborate and communicate with patients, providers, and staff as it relates to patient assessment, response to treatment, patient needs, satisfaction, outcomes, quality and personal needs and comfort of the patient.
Updates the patient's plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluates the overall nursing plan of care for effectiveness. Provides verbal instructions to patients, caregivers, and/or family members in a timely manner; evaluates the individual's level of understanding and ability to implement instructions.
Serves as a resource and role model demonstrating professional skills and abilities. Utilizes knowledge base and nursing skills to maintain or exceed performance expectations.
Ensure all supplies, materials, and equipment inventories are maintained at appropriate levels to meet the demands of patient care, safety, utilization, and financial goals.
Monitor and evaluate processes and workflows; provides recommendations to optimize performance/outcomes; works with clinic team and hospital leadership to implement recommended strategies.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements for all nursing services and evidence-based practices. Accurately enters information into the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely manner.
Ensure all established policies, procedures, standards of practice, and conduct guidelines are followed in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations, and hospital policy.
Ensure all supplies, materials, and equipment inventories are maintained at appropriate levels to meet the demands of patient care, safety, utilization, and financial goals.
Assist other department personnel as necessary; performs other duties as assigned.
