Registered Nurse, Central Support

The STAT nurse is responsible for identifying the patient's alterations in health, assessing the patient's human response to actual and potential health problems, implementing nursing interventions (based on theoretical concepts from nursing and other arts and sciences) to achieve outcomes for the patient that facilitate resolution of alterations in health and actual and potential health problems and determining the effectiveness of nursing interventions by evaluating anticipated patient outcomes, as needed, to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
The STAT nurse makes independent decisions/judgments and takes action regarding a wide range of routine and complex patient problems and situations. Manages assignments through autonomous triage and negotiation with multiple units. Collaborates with other disciplines, as appropriate, to coordinate continuity of patient care in support of medical and nursing plans of care. Participates in selected activities to promote delivery of quality nursing care, effective problem solving, communication and continued professional development of self and others. May assume preceptor responsibilities, as assigned.
The STAT nurse acts to support patient care needs in any acute medical/surgical unit, intensive care unit and Emergency Department within Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. The STAT nurse will serve as a resource for the psychiatric unit, when needed. Whenever possible, the patient, the family or those significant to the patient are an integral part of the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation efforts of the STAT nurse.
The STAT nurse is responsible for supervising/directing care provided by licensed practice nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel. The STAT nurse is responsible for assigning/delegating care to other qualified members of the health care team. The STAT nurse coordinates care between other professional disciplines, as needed.
Unit-based activities which contribute to a positive work and professional environment are performed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Current RN license in the state of Florida.
• BSN preferred.
  • BSN required within three years of hire for all nurses hired after April 30, 2014.
• Professional nursing board certification in specialty area preferred.
  • Specialty certification required within two years of specialty experience at UF Health Shands or certification eligibility date for all nurses hired after June 30, 2011.
• Minimum of three years' experience in nursing with demonstrated clinical experience in managing patients with complex treatment and protocols.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• Current RN license in the state of Florida.
