Summary of the Position: The Registered Nurse is the primary care staff responsible for the delivery of medical services provided to persons served across campus, but primarily at the Wellness Center. (Registered) nursing care will be provided to persons served in both an in-patient and out-patient setting. Also assisting in providing medical care and medication passes at the LTSR on an as needed basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
Description of Duty
Assist Medical Provider
- Assist physician in the examination and treatment of persons served.
- Assist dental, doctor and optometrist line as needed. This may include preparing orders.
- Transcribe physician orders and assure the follow through of treatment to persons served occurs.
New Admissions
- Process newly admitted persons served.
- This includes:
- Gathering medical history
- Assisting in the completion of physical examinations
- Gathering various test samples
Medical Teaching
- Offer and provide medically related teaching to direct care staff with regard to health, illness and wellness.
- Offer and provide medical education to persons served. Education may include disease specific information, adherence, growth and development, treatment education, universal precautions, sexual health, nutrition and weight management, and specialty conditions (i.e. diabetes).
Triage and First Responder
- Assess persons served involved in restraints and fights.
- Triage persons served complaints and concerns at least twice daily, or more often as needed.
- Serve as a first aid responder for campus residents and staff members in the event of an emergency.
Referral and Care Coordination
- Refer both staff and persons served for emergency medical services to various hospitals when indicated.
- Answer phones and assist callers with questions regarding care coordination and follow-up.
- Consulting/Hospital Discharge Orders
- Prepare persons served for pre-operative procedures.
Medical Testing/Processing
- Process various tests and samples for diagnostic procedures.
- Follow-up on all diagnostic tests with positive or abnormal results.
Medication Administration/Distribution
- Administer various vaccinations and medications.
- Dispense medications to persons served as prescribed by the staff physicians in all campus locations.
- Prepare medications for home passes and discharges.
Purchasing
- Order medications and medical supplies as required and store in the appropriate location. Checking in medications when the weekly supply and daily supply arrives.
Equipment Care
- Clean and care for various equipment and storage areas.
Documentation
- Document encounters with persons served when applicable.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to walk, bend, stoop and kneel.
Work Location: The nurse works primarily in the Wellness Center, but is also responsible for distributing medications across campus.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
Education supporting licensure as indicated below.
Licensure
Licensed in PA as an RN
Years of Experience
One year of experience working as a nurse.
Computer Experience
Microsoft Applications and EMR
Other
Able to provide empathetic care to persons served, well-organized and able to work as part of a team.
