2 OPENINGS: CEDAR RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL AND HOPEWELL MIDDLE SCHOOL
8 HOURS PER DAY
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: REGISTERED NURSE, WITH CURRENT TEXAS LICENSE, CPR CERTIFICATION, CERTIFICATION IN VISION, HEARING, SCREENING SPINAL AND ACANTHOSIS NIGRICANS (AN) REQUIRED.
BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Promote, support and maintain the health and safety of students and faculty/staff to include the physical and emotional well-being of the individual for the purpose of providing an environment conducive to effective learning.

Instructional Management:
• Support the implementation, monitoring and/or evaluation of assigned programs for elementary and secondary education, curriculum, and/or instructional support, and ensure that assigned programs are efficiently and effectively administered.
• Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans.
Student Management:
• Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students, faculty/staff members according to district policy and procedures.
• Promote maximum student attendance by early recognition and treatment of communicable diseases.
• Assess student and staff health needs.
• Provide preventative and primary health/dental care services for children in need and assist families in accessing and obtaining needed health care services. Assist campuses in resolving parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
• Assist in managing student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:
• Participate with the multi-disciplinary team planning that focus on the health care needs of the medically fragile student, developing and implementing individualized health care plans as needed.
• Provide health counseling, teaching and treatment on an individual basis to students, families and staff.
• Participate in staff/faculty meetings.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Perform screening procedures as required by state and local mandates. Make appropriate referrals and follow-up including assistance in securing financial resources.
• Secure medical care for students according to district policy and procedures if parents or emergency contacts cannot be reached.
• Refer students and families to appropriate social agencies for assistance in meeting personal needs.
• Coordinate a system of administration and management of medications given at school and administer medications according to Round Rock ISD policy and procedures.
• Administer vaccines according to protocols and Round Rock ISD policy and procedures.
• Assume responsibility for maintaining complete and accurate immunization records that comply with state
mandates; perform monthly review and follow-up of immunizations due.
• Coordinate a system of administration and management of medications given at school and administer medications according to Round Rock ISD policy and procedures.
• Administer vaccines according to protocols and Round Rock ISD policy and procedures.
• Assume responsibility for maintaining complete and accurate immunization records that comply with state mandates; perform monthly review and follow-up of immunizations due.
• Maintain accurate and complete clinic records and health with proper documentation on services rendered.
• Submit timely reports as required by the Health Services Director and state mandates.
• Submit budget for and maintain adequate supplies in the health clinic.
• Report potential health/safety hazards in school to the principal.
• Prepare paperwork for reimbursement for treatment and services for Special Education students on Medicaid.
• Maintain current communication with Principal and Health Services Director regarding health problems and related matters.
• Attend health services meetings and nursing professional growth activities.
• Participate on the Admission, Review and Dismissal committees and other school committees as appropriate.
• Provide treatment/services as directed by physicians to facilitate medically fragile students to transition smoothly into the educational setting.
• Serve as health liaison between school, physician, parents, community, and health agencies.
• Assess physical and mental signs and symptoms for potential child abuse/neglect and make referrals as indicated.
• Coordinate departmental activities with other District offices and administrators and provide assistance to requesting departments.
• Follow District and department policies and procedures.
Human Resources Management:
• Supervise and train licensed vocational nurses (LVN), and health record specialists in clinic procedures and responsibilities according to Round Rock ISD policy.
• Supervise and train staff working with the students as appropriate.
• Provide direction and guidance to assigned staff.
• Provide input on performance of assigned staff.
• Recognize exemplary performance of assigned staff.
Organization Improvement:
• Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs.
Professional Growth and Development:
• Maintain certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), vision, hearing, spinal and acanthosis nigricans (AN).
• Complete mandated Continuing Education (CE) Type I and Type II requirements to maintain Registered Nurse license.
• Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District performance.
Academic Excellence Indicators and Campus Performance Objectives:
• Support the administration of state-mandated testing at campuses in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
• Monitor and review campus test data and use findings to assist with planning corrective action for the affected group of students and/or campuses.
School/Community Relations:
• Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District's initiatives.
Organization Morale:
• Foster positive morale by participating in team building activities and the decision-making process.
• Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction.
Other Responsibilities:
• Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervise assigned licensed vocational nurses (LVN), health record specialist(s), and clerical employee(s) as their duties relate to health services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of Texas Education Agency rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Knowledge of basic first aid and training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Skill in assessment and evaluation.
• Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Skill in operating standard computer and software applications, including but not limited to electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.
• Skill in health counseling.
• Skill in emergency first-aid.
• Skill in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
• Skill in using specialized medical equipment.
• Ability to make independent decisions based on complex information.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse, with current Texas license, CPR certification, certification in vision, hearing, screening spinal and acanthosis nigricans (AN) required.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Work with frequent interruptions.
• Travel district-wide occasionally.
• Lift and restraint up to 50 pounds.
• Sit, walk, stand, stoop, bend, and lift specialized medical equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work environment.
• Work environment may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials, situations that require following extensive safety precautions, and may include the use of protective equipment.
• Work environment may involve biological exposure to blood pathogens, bodily fluids and waste, and other communicable diseases.
