At The Summit Independent Living and The Summit Assisted Living, we care for our residents and provide them with access to additional services provided by The Summit Health & Rehab Center through a partnership agreement with Hill Valley Healthcare (the operators of The Summit Health & Rehab). We provide care coordination for our residents and team members as both communities work together to provide consistent, quality care through the full continuum of care for all Summit residents.

Med Aides (MA) are primarily responsible for providing direct care to the residents of The Summit in Assisted Living, under the direction of the Nurse Manager. The MA provides assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) while maintaining the resident’s autonomy, dignity, and independence.  Responsibilities include participating in the Individualized Service Plan (plan of care) for each resident, prioritizing tasks and ensuring residents safety and comfort.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer all medications in accordance with the prescriber’s orders and instructions for dosage and time of administration and document such administration in the medical record.
  • Demonstrate the best practice “Rights” of medication administration.
  • Utilize Resident Rights regarding medications, treatment decisions and confidentiality.
  • Store and secure all medications per regulations and P&P.
  • Maintain inventory and report all medications that need to be ordered from pharmacy to the Nurse Supervisor in Assisted Living.
  • Identify medication terminology and abbreviations.
  • Assist with activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, hygiene, toileting, mobility, and other tasks as needed.
  • Dispose of medications according to regulations, pharmacy guidelines and Summit P&P.
  • Maintain count of medication for on-coming shift and address any count issues with the Nurse Supervisor immediately.
  • Responsible for recording and reporting the care and treatments given, completes documentation per P&P

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Medication Aide Training program approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Successfully passed the Virginia Board of Nursing competency test for medication aides to pass medications in an Assisted Living Facility.
  • The medication aide must be licensed by the Board of Nursing and provide medication management as outlined in the Code of Virginia 54.1-2400 and Chapter 30 of Title 54.1; Under the Drug Control Act of Virginia.
  • Must possess a current unencumbered license as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
