Pay Range: Starts at $22.00 per hour, depending on experience
The YMCA is hiring a Registered Dietitian to serve our members and program participants. This position will be hybrid for virtual consultations and content creation but also will need to be available for onsite meetings around Middle Tennessee and Lunch-and-Learn opportunities. The Outreach Programs include our After Breast Cancer group and Weight Loss program participants in addition to individuals seeking nutrition guidance.
Position Summary:
Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Vice President of Member Experience, the Registered Dietitian will assume all duties necessary to establish value to the public by organizing, promoting and administering effective nutritional programs, services and initiatives.
Essential Functions:
- Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
- Ensure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants
- Help prevent and treat illnesses by promoting healthy eating habits
- Plan food and nutrition programs
- Work cooperatively with local, state and national food & nutrition community
- Perform nutritional screenings for clients and offer advice on areas such as weight loss or cholesterol reduction
- Assess client's nutritional needs and develop and implement nutritional programs and educate and report results
- Instruct individuals and families on maintaining a safe, sustainable food supply; instruct with information on grocery shopping and food preparation
- Increase public interest in nutrition; attend community health events as needed
- Counsel community as individuals and groups on nutritional practices designed to prevent disease and promote health
- Focus on healthy aging, overweight children, and obese children
- Guide athletes to better performance through nutrition and understanding the role of supplements
- Attend community health events as needed
- Build relationships and interact with members
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions

- Minimum 18 years of age
- Four year college degree with dietetics, nutrition, or food science related degree required
- Complete dietetic internship or combined masters/ internship; complete National Registration Exam
- Prior experience in field preferred
Certifications Required:
- Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
- Before start of 1st shift: Registered / Licensed Dietitian (RD / LD); licensed to practice by the state of TN; credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); member American Dietetic Association
- Within 30 days of hire: CPR Pro/ First Aid/ AED
- Within 60 days of hire: Attend Introduction to Listen First training and MarCom Training
- Additional credentials preferred: certificate of training in Adult Weight Management and/or Child & Adolescent Weight Management; Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics(CSSD) or Gerontological Nutrition; certified Diabetes Educator; ACE Lifestyle-Weight Management Coach
- Maintain 75 hours of CECs every five years
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
