PART-TIME REGIONAL SUPERVISOR – ROAD

Summary
Supervise the activities of road operations statewide to identify and address issues to ensure service quality within budget and on-time performance parameters.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Observes and supervises Bus Operations activities to ensure maximum schedule adherence for field assignments.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical and electronic equipment problems, such as radios and fare boxes for field assignments.
  • Uses information available from CAD system to evaluate service and adjust as necessary to maintain consistent reliable service levels.
  • Coordinates with other NJ TRANSIT departments and outside agencies as required to handle extraordinary events, such as: fuel spills, major accidents, traffic interruptions, weather conditions and rail disruptions.
  • Investigates service related complaints to determine cause, recommends possible solutions and monitors implementation of solutions.
  • Prepares daily reports, and conducts special checks, to include passenger counts, register/fare-box checks, uniform checks, radio/PA checks, safety equipment checks, bus inspections, RRX checks, directional signal usage checks, Terminal/Bus Shelter inspections and when required bus speed checks.
  • Responds to customer disturbances, fare disputes, incidents and accidents.
  • Understands all ADA regulations and NJ TRANSIT policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining, reading, and referencing the Standard Operations Procedures Manual to understand and perform their duties adequately, reflecting their responsibility towards the Corporate Mission Statement.
  • Attend meetings and training as required.
  • Prepare documents and reports as requested.
  • Quarterly rotation between garages within district to enhance career development and improve employee knowledge of company operations.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of full-time paid work experience in progressively responsible positions; OR,
  • Three (3) years of full-time experience as a NJTRANSIT Bus Operator OR,
  • Associate’s Degree, and one (1) year of full-time paid work experience OR,
  • Honorable discharge from any branch of the US Military.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience equal to or greater than three years
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least one (1) year of full-time work experience
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Possess a working knowledge of and ability to adhere to all federal, state law, regulations and NJT policies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Possess a working knowledge of common transit practices, equipment, terminology, safety precautions and safety rules.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and transportation specific software and applications.
  • Ability to successfully plan, execute, supervise, and inspect the work of others.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain clear, concise and accurate records/activity logs.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective and professional working relationships within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to deal with both employees and to customer’s courteously, tactfully, and professionally.
  • Ability to identify potentially hazardous conditions and take corrective action to resolve/or remediate.
  • Demonstrate good judgment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, the ability to conceptualize, apply, analyze, synthesize, and/or evaluate information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to action and anticipate issues.
  • Ability to make quick but well-reasoned operational decisions.

  • Physical condition must be commensurate with the demands of the position.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  1. Must possess a valid New Jersey State drivers' license at the time of hire and maintain such license for the duration of employment.
  2. Within six months of hire must obtain a CDL B permit.
  3. Within twelve months of employment employee must successfully complete NJT’s supervisory training The Art of Managing People I and II and obtain a CDL B with a Passenger Endorsement.

Working Environment
General outdoor and office
This is a 24/7 operation employees in the title of Regional Supervisors work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays as NJ Transit operations dictate.Must be willing to respond to emergencies and work extra hours.
Physical Demands
Some light lifting, prolonged periods of sitting in vehicle, standing, walking, bending, and stooping

NOTE: This position is safety sensitive. All candidates and employees must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test with a negative result and are subject to additional testing as required by the DOT/FTA Drug and Alcohol regulations.
