Duties, Responsibilities & Other

 

The Regional Practice Leader role is an important connection between discipline leadership and the Practice Leaders that roll up to them. This role will:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the assigned region.
  • Be highly engaged in the client relationships to grow trust and develop business through Account Development activities.
  • Be available to assist with Business Development opportunities as requested (conventions, trade shows etc).    
  • Work closely with leadership and legal counsel for new client contract review.
  • Engage in regional client leadership relationship building efforts.
  • Own and understand the P&L statement for assigned region and work to achieve the desired results.
  • Work closely with front line leadership; Practice Leaders and Project Managers, to ensure their region is meeting client targets for Quality, Quantity, Cost and Commitment, and quickly address deficiencies as they are identified.
  • Develop and execute an approved staffing plan to meet the business needs of our client while supporting the internal business plan.
  • Support other power sector RPL's in times of work expansion or contraction (utilize available capacity).
  • Work closely with QTTI leadership to create a seamless continuity between the two work groups.
  • Address QTTI KPI's that need attention and appropriately celebrate achievements of KPI's met.
  • Support the personal development of employees while maintaining budget allocations.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 15 years of experience in electrical distribution design industry.
  • Experience leading a team of designers to deliver various types of overhead and underground electric distribution projects utilizing utility design and construction standards.
  • Experience in leading those who manage front line employees.
  • Project management experience required, with experience in managing and growing a design team.
  • Experience in developing and managing project managers in electric distribution.
  • Experience meeting client expectations and developing business.
  • Experience with working in the Investor Owned Utility (IOU) business model and regulatory environment.
  • Proposal engagement including identifying expertise, scope, schedule and fee as directed by leadership.
  • Manage contingent worker invoicing and billing questions when needed.
  • Manage regional relationships with contracted staffing agencies.
  • Strong design knowledge in electrical distribution required. Degreed, Professional desired.
  • Prepare written technical proposals, assemble teams to meet client criteria, and develop professional relationships.
  • This position requires a leader with demonstrated experience and a broad knowledge of the electric distribution industry and the processes required to develop design packages utilizing client specific design standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and developing staff for current and future roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and supporting a safe work culture.
  • Experience in storm restoration and specifically damage assessment
  • Demonstrated experience in positively supporting change. Examples, new organization, work management and design systems replacement or upgrades.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil, Industrial, Mechanical or related area) or equivalent. Master's or PhD preferred. 
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
Performance Expectations
  • Prepare and deliver timely annual employee performance appraisals for assigned staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships by soliciting monthly performance feedback, identifying client needs, and identifying the next project
  • Meet monthly with Discipline Manager, Operations Manager, and Practice Leaders to review financials
  • Work with the Market Manager, Discipline Manager, Regional/Practice Leader(s), and the CFO to develop annual budget between September 1 and November 15
  • Answer questions at monthly town hall meetings
  • Chair at least one technical society committee
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Hire and manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
  • Meet annual Performance Agreements targets
  • Meet monthly or more frequently as necessary with the Market Leader and Discipline Manager
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Participate and contribute to annual leadership meeting(includes PLEP training)
  • Participate in and contribute to three regional office forums per year
  • Represent KCI in two technical societies and one community organization
  • Review annual Employee Satisfaction Survey and implement required corrective actions
  • Review monthly resource allocation plan with Practice Leaders. Ensure inter-practice resource allocation for efficiency
  • Conduct annual market research between June 1 and August 31 with Discipline Manager
  • Grow the Regional Practice by adding new clients or services within the assigned region
  • Provide market trends to the Discipline Manager for the strategic planning sessions
  • Provide project and client leads to other Regional Practice Leaders to grow their Regional Practices
  • Chart and coordinate practice performance results
  • Deliver all projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Meet biweekly or more frequently as necessary with project team on all projects/tasks greater than $50K in fees
  • Meet monthly with clients to review project progress
  • Monitor effective use of equipment and personnel
  • Negotiate scope, schedule, and fee estimates for large and significant projects
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and invoices for projects
  • Provide monthly Oracle project updates to the project analyst
  • Provide monthly WIP/AR comments to the operations manager
  • Provide technical project and staff oversight
  • Provide weekly new project budget data to Operations Manager for entry into Oracle
  • Serve as project manager on large or significant projects
  • Develop project specific safety plans.Ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations
