Location:DOC Headquarters -Regional Position, based in and traveling throughout the Western part of the state. Roanoke is not the only option for a home base, any location in the Western part of the state is allowed.

Job Duties
Offer frequent onsite support and establish clinical pharmacy initiatives in the region in collaboration with the regional medical director. Monitor the contracted pharmacy services. Provide related consultation. Utilize technical skills and professional judgement to provide medications to inmate patients. Assist the Virginia Department of Corrections related to pharmacy issues. Understand and educate the field on all electronic healthcare systems as it relates to pharmacy services. Review and facilitate cost savings throughout the system. The pharmacist is responsible for participating in quality assurance activities regarding medications to include: policy, medication usage, audits, and the suggestion, authoring, or performance of Drug Utilization Evaluation studies needed to maintain quality patient care and cost-effective medication management. Employee will be based in region assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college/university recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education
Possess a current and unrestricted Virginia Pharmacy license issued by the Department of Health Professions (must be a Registered Pharmacist (RPH) in VA) at the time of application
Knowledge of the standards and guidelines required by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, Pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, drug interactions, patient monitoring techniques, drug information retrieval, drug distribution systems, methods of sterile compounding, quality control techniques, legal limitations on procurement, storage distribution, and sale of drugs.
Knowledge of the federal and state laws applicable to the practice of pharmacy.
Ability to monitor and provide guidance for the clinical, administrative, and operational aspects of a specialized pharmacy operation.
Excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Strong understanding of predominant diseases in the correctional population (HEP C, HIV, Psych, etc.).
Must have extensive understanding of collaborative practices and benefits. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
Experience as a professional Pharmacist
Experience in medication therapy management
Additional Considerations
Ability to be proactive in their job duties and strive for quality improvement
Experience in correctional healthcare
Experience in pharmacy management, preferably across multiple sites
Fellowship training
Board Certified
