The Role:
Regional Medical Directors are responsible for either leadership and management of multiple Health Centers/complexes, or one or more global medical operations or programs. Other responsibilities include; personnel development, medical compliance and regulatory oversight, business integration, strategic review and planning, maintaining union interface, providing medical expertise and assuring the delivery of quality occupational medical services.

Expanded Responsibilities
Leadership and management of Health Center Personnel (Physicians)
Recruit, interview hire doctors and nurses
Deal with complex staff issues
Complete CAP process for direct reports, 9 box and comp planning for group
Assure plants meet all BPD requirements
Review of Emergency response plans, runs/simulations, plant tracking sheets
Assure plant medical is fully engaged in plant level joint programs including H & S, IH, ergo, ADAPT
Provide occupational medical expertise and support to Plant Medical Directors
Assure plant medical team works effectively with HR, labor, Personnel Director and Plant Manager’s staff
Provide guidance to issue resolution (e.g. occupational medical advice and expertise, personnel issues, etc.)
Personnel capability development
Onboard and orient new employees
Assure training of nurses and physicians per roadmaps for new hires and license and training workbook
Coach and mentor medical staff
Encourage all staff to actively pursue an IDP annually
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
Conduct ORM reviews, CAPA reviews and validations by reviewing self-audits and during onsite visits to plant medical departments
Review OSHA overrides, quarterly medical record audits and corrective action plans
Assure completion of all required qualification and surveillance exams at all sites
Assure compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g. BBP, injury illness reporting) at all sites
Assure training of nurses and physicians per roadmaps for new hires and license and training workbook
Integrate with business partners including providing senior physician expertise to individuals and the organization
Promote GM Medical leadership and participation in employee wellness and wellbeing initiatives at every site
Ensure plants work with effectively with employee service and benefits center on disability management activities and training (DIP, FFD exams, specialty DIP ,meetings)
Provide medical process and individual evaluations for drivers seeking medical deviations via Company vehicle operations (CVO-48)
Provide medical expertise, consultation services and support to GM Mobility (ISP), Global travel medicine, business travelers, GeoBlue, and corporate security
Provide medical expertise, consultation and support to plant and corporate HR, labor, PDs and Plant Managers
Assure completion of all corporate required training, attend PD annual meeting, HR learning days and meet CME requirements to maintain licensure and keep current
Strategic review and planning
Develop and / or review policies, procedures, initiatives and participate in organizational strategy planning in GMNA
Prepare for and participate in monthly GM Medical leadership meetings, HRM, weekly SMD meetings
Lead and or participate in succession planning for GMNA leaders
Develop OH program, including benchmarking with other leading companies
Maintaining Union interfaces
Provide GM Medical leadership liaison to UAW and support joint programs, including medical expertise and input at CHR level - H & S, IH, ergo, ADAPT
Lead local contract negotiations at represented sites
Lead or participate in Salaried Master Agreement Negotiations
Provide Occupational Physician expertise (Physicians)
Conduct TPD evaluations, consultations and meetings with EBSC
Participate in Leadership of GM Medical in North America, and as a medical expert (SME) on behalf of the Corporate Medical Director

- Five or more years plant medical and supervisory experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment
- Ability to communicate, motivate, and inspire direct reports and others
- Ability to champion and lead change within work groups and departments
- Demonstrates innovative and strategic thinking
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
Education and Training - Physician
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree required
- Board certification in a medical specialty required, preferably in occupational medicine. Board certification in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and family medicine are also acceptable.
- Valid state medical license
Education and Training - Nurse
- Nursing Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Additional advanced degree (MS, MPH, MBA or doctorate) required
- Valid state nursing license required
- Certification as Occupational Health Nursing (COHN) or Occupational Health Nursing Specialist (COHN-S) require
