Regional Health & Safety Mgr

Location: This position will work a hybrid model (3-4 days/week onsite in office) and will be require to travel around an assigned region as necessary. When reporting to the office, the location will be on MMM Holdings, Kennedy Building located on 411 Calle Segarra Marginal Kennedy, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Regional Health & Safety Mgr is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures for assigned business operations within a region to enhance EHS awareness and drive compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as corporate guidelines and policies. May also manage Worker’s Compensation within a region.

How you will make an impact:

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Addresses safety and health related issues, proactively and preventively, working closely with the Global Security & Safety Leadership Team, providing direction, developing strategies to close identified gaps, and driving continuous EHS improvement.

  • Influences/leads the organization with a strategic forward-thinking mindset on external trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.

  • Provides guidance on common inquiries or complaints, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Ensures that all applicable regulatory environmental permits, reports, and plans are generated and updated to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local EPA regulations.

  • Develops and monitors meaningful leading indicators of safety and health risk/performance evaluate data trending, and provide data input to management reviews, with a view to continuous improvement and enhancement of safety performance.

  • Identifies and implements appropriate environmental/sustainability programs in consultation with facilities team.

  • Conducts hazard and risk assessments and audits; develops new or, where necessary, makes recommendations to amend, safety policies and procedures or ensure timeline completion of corrective actions that drive continuous improvement.

  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert advisor in contracts with vendors, partners, and customers.

  • Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization, as well as holds a continuous improvement mindset.

  • May manage all Workers’ Compensation claims in accordance with all regulations for an assigned region which includes but is not limited to reporting all Workers’ Compensation claims to the State Insurance Fund within defined timelines, lead incident investigation efforts in partnership with management, respond to requests for information from the State Insurance Fund, and work with local HR to ensure adherence to and with Workers’ Compensation related accommodations; maintain the appropriate level of communication with the associate, management, and State Insurance Fund for all Workers’ Compensation related injuries and/or illnesses and collaborates with the enterprise Workers’ Compensation team to ensure alignment with enterprise incident reporting metrics while maintaining accurate and up-to-date OSHA Recordkeeping documentation and filings.

  • Position will provide support across multiple times zones and travels within a given region.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a BA/BS in Occupational Environmental, Health, and Safety or related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience in Environment, Health & Safety; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

  • Worker’s Compensation experience may be required.

  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

  • Knowledge and/or training specific to EPA and OSHA regulations preferred.

  • Experience in managing OSHS, ISO45001OHSM, ISO 14001 EMS, and other EHS initiatives preferred.

  • Working knowledge and experience with Workers Compensation and the Puerto Rico State Insurance Fund Corporation is strongly preferred.
