Barko Hydraulics located in Superior, WI, manufactures innovative heavy equipment solutions for the forestry, site prep, and material handling markets.

The Position
This position partners with 2 separate business units operating heavy equipment assembly plants to provide support developing and implementing environmental, health & safety programs and processes to ensure compliance with the Heico EHS management system, applicable regulatory requirements and in support of the business strategic plan. The position is responsible for the prevention and elimination of injuries and illness to all employees, customers, the environment and other visitors to our facility, and grounds.
Key Performance Areas
- Ensure that EHS activities are in full compliance with all related Heico MESH Safety Standards, OSHA, DOT, EPA, & DEC regulations & achieve all Safety Goals established within the Benchmark software system.
- Maintain All EHS Related Certifications and Training for All Employees, Contractors, and Visitors housed in the Gensuite/Benchmark Software system.
- Develop a standard and implement an organizational Safety and Cleanliness culture that makes our facility a world class manufacturing operation while creating an atmosphere of personal responsibility and accountability.
- Identify and develop the necessary processes, procedures, and documentation to Obtain OHSAS 45001: certification.
- Work with all departments to support the plant 5S program plan and develop a Safety culture that is embraced by all employees.
- Improve the safety program and culture by expanding awareness while creating accountability and responsibility.
- Provides guidance to Management and Supervisors and reviews of all investigations of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations in tandem with the Human Resources department.
- Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to eliminate employee industrial accidents, working in tandem with the Human Resources department.
- Compiles and submits accident reports required by company and regulatory agencies.
- Monitor recordable accident and near miss rate.
- Maintain Environmental and ISO Permits
- Manage Daily inspection sheets.
- Manage the monthly section safety inspections throughout the building.
- Conduct Monthly Spot Checks of Critical Programs
- Maintain Contractor Safety Program
Experience and Education:
- Experience: 5+ years’ EHS experience in a Manufacturing or Assembly Plant setting.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree
- KSA’s:
- Knowledge of OHSAS, DOT, EPA, & DEC Regulations and Manufacturing knowledge
- Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001 & 45001
- Leadership: Ability to engage and lead diverse teams of people, provide clear instructions, and the ability to influence others
- Passion: Demonstrate genuine passion about leading people and building relationships.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal communication.
- Technology: Strong working knowledge of MS Office and appropriate analytical tools.
- Strategic Planning: Experience in developing long range strategic plans.
Supervisory Responsibility – This position does not have any direct reports.
Travel Requirements: Moderate Travel is expected for this position- approx. 30%.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work - This is a full-time position. Typical work hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
