In 2021 we moved into a brand new ISO 17025 accredited laboratory in Madison, WI designed to conduct food chemistry testing specializing in infant formula, sole-source nutrition products, hemp and CBD, dietary supplements, and a variety of botanicals.

This role's hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, and On Site at our Des Moines, IA site. 

Job Description

This role as the Regional Cluster Leader for a group of microbiology laboratories is responsible for running all aspects of the microbiology service line within that Regional Cluster under supervision including service line marketing, science, consulting, and operations. The leader in this role will drive new business innovation; oversee multiple modular or smaller EML laboratories; ensure continuous and profitable growth of this service line; assure quality, scientific and client service targets are achieved.  Depending on the size of the laboratories, this leader may also function as the on-site BUMa for one of the laboratories.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and promote the company vision.
  • Responsible for the supervision, organization, and coordination of all technical activities of businesses within scope in line with the principles of sound scientific endeavors, business economy, and the professional development of subordinate employees
  • Develop and execute the build out and growth of the EML Business Unit Managers (BUMa's) and Site Leaders within scope and related business lines.
  • Manage the technical conduct, quality control, and related record keeping of all analytical evaluations performed.
  • Oversee and manage the activities of the modular laboratories.
  • Develop marketing strategies in collaboration with EML Executive Team
  • Responsible for EML coordination and optimization of logistics, couriers and sample delivery
  • Develop regulatory policies, government relationships to positively influence the micro industry.  Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory and certification guidelines (eg. GXP, FDA, USDA, etc.)
  • Acts as executive sponsor to key clients.
  • Drive process improvement efforts by working with the EML Executive team to identify key business priorities and initiatives.
  • Ensures integration of acquisitions or long-term relationships with other laboratories for the purpose of providing a Eurofins competitive advantage
  • Drive culture change and be a catalyst in creating a team environment focused on exceeding our client expectations.
  • Partners effectively across the Eurofins business lines to provide a comprehensive test portfolio to its customers.
  • Provide the necessary planning, organization, direction, and control to meet the goals of the company.
  • Ensure that all pertinent company health, safety, and environmental programs are adhered to, and documentation is maintained.
  • Establish and maintain professional business relationships with clients, industry officials, and peers.
  • Assist in the generation of marketing strategies, prepare comprehensive technical work proposals, and maintain an influential position in establishing business expansion plans.
  • Responsible for the overall operational success of the laboratories within scope, which includes, but is not limited to: P&L management, budgeting, making decisions on capital expenses, managing senior staff, attending to major client needs, revenue & profit growth, and cost control.
  • Implement the decisions of the executive committee.
  • Mentoring future leaders and developing succession planning within the cluster and individual laboratories
  • Perform annual performance reviews for direct reporting key executive leaders and other personnel.  Coordinate and review annual reviews of other lab personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability required. 

  • Formal Microbiology education or direct industry experience preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology or related field
  • Additional, MBA or business degree preferred
  • 3+ years of leadership and management experience
  • 6+ years of food science experience
  • Prior experience leading people.  Coach, mentor and guide business unit managers in the region
  • Must be able to work with people, negotiate, analyze problems, and translate company goals into actions necessary to achieve those goals.
  • Ability to understand and analyze financial statements.
  • Ability to lead group of labs through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in laboratory procedures, data analysis, computer operations
  • Experience in technical/business writing and giving oral presentations.
  • Solid operational and financial track record
  • Documented ability to work in a large decentralized scientific business.
  • Demonstrated experience developing relationships across various teams and levels.
  • Strong process and business acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Weekend and evening work as needed.
  • Will be exposed to potential food allergens.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time with some international travel for executive meetings
  • Ability to manage through an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to learn new tasks.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems quickly and efficiently
