Under the general supervision of the Director(s) of Cardiopulmonary, is responsible for echocardiography procedures, and patient care during echo procedures. This person will work closely with cardiologists, ordering providers, and other medical staff to provide appropriate testing and quality patient care. Other responsibilities include teaching echocardiogram procedures, and any other tasks assigned by the Director(s) that are within the scope of practice of knowledge and skill level of the sonographer.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
- Must have an appropriate credential in echocardiography:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS)
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI)
- Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (CCI)
- Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (CCI)
- Canadian Registered Cardiac Sonographer (Sonography Canada)
- If newly graduated from cardiac ultrasound program, must obtain credential within one year of graduation
- Must be able to perform echocardiogram, stress echocardiogram, and assist in transesophageal echocardiogram procedures.
- Successful completion of in house IV therapy training within two months of hire date, or within two months of receiving credential.
- BCLS required.
- Two years previous echocardiography experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people.
- Must have the ability to work independently and manage daily workflow.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
- Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the physical, mental, and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Required lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds.
- Must keep patients safe.
