Job description

Position Summary
Responsible for operating the x-ray equipment, performs sterile scrub duties while assisting the Cardiologist, performs monitoring and documentation duties of the procedure and patient hemodynamics for all diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular and peripheral vascular procedures . Performs procedures according to the Cardiologist orders in the patient’s chart. As a member of the Cath Lab Team, the Cath Lab Radiology Technologist is responsible for working collaboratively with the Cath Lab Team and Cardiologist to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care. Responsible for quality control, quality improvement and equipment maintenance for the department.

Flexible schedules to cover all shifts, weekends, holidays, and call as the department and hospital needs demand.
Qualifications/Specifications
  • Education: Graduate of a Radiology Program
  • Licensure/CertificationCurrent American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) and Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board certifications. BLS certification required. ACLS certification optional.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Cath Lab Radiology Technologist preferred and or a minimum of 2 years X-Ray experience with cross training skills in other modalities.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Performs at a proficient level all tasks within the specialty area. Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility’s computer system.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to interact and communicate in English, both orally and written, with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective manner by exhibiting tact, enthusiasm, and patience. Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Transfers patient for radiology procedures. Requires vertically transferring patient weighing up to (50 lbs.) from (24”) to (36”), up to (40/shift).
  • Transfers patient for radiology procedures. Requires vertically transferring patient weighing up to (50 lbs.) from (36”) to (24”), up to (40/shift).
  • Transfers film to dark room. Requires horizontally transferring film weighing up to (3 lbs.), up to (12/shift), a distance of up to (50 feet) without medical assistance.
  • Transfers patient wheelchair to perform job duties. Must horizontally transfer patient wheelchair requiring a force up to (60 lbs.), up to (40/shift), a distance up to (50 feet).
  • Transfers x-ray tube, located 74” from the floor, to perform job duties. Requires upper body forces up to (10 lbs.), up to (12/hr.).
  • Must access I.V. and portable unit to perform job duties. Requires repetitive assumption of posture to access appoint (5”) from the floor up to (15/shift).
  • Stands to perform job duties when indicated. Requires tolerance of standing posture up to (2 hours) continuously, for a total of up to (10 hours) per (12 hours).
  • Tolerate wearing lead shielding (30 lbs) during standing posture.
  • Requires (near/far) vision to read orders, requisitions, computer screen, patient positioning, and panel; all are in English
  • Walks to access hospital and campus. Requires walking up to (2.0 miles), in (12 hours.).
  • Required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor for a total of up to (4 hours) per (12 hours).
  • Critical Cognitive Abilities: Requires good communication and organizational skills. Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular working hours. Requires working with frequent interruptions.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Able to respond to patient needs by interpreting facial expressions, and/or verbal communications.
  • Exposure to Hazards: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and potentially contaminated body fluids and bio-hazardous materials. OSHA risk factor: Category 1. Potential risk of physical injury due to moving machinery and supplies. Frequent exposure to radiation.
  • Age-Specific Criteria: Possesses the knowledge and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Possesses the knowledge of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served, as well as the knowledge to perform treatments and interpret data specific to that patient group.
  • Other: Knowledgeable of the mission, vision, and values of the hospital. Operates within the concept of patient-focused care. Evolves into an effective team member. Must adhere to dress code, good grooming and personal hygiene habits, and strict adherence to attendance policies. Cognizant of and conforms to all hospital policies and procedures. Adhere to all radiation safety guidelines as outlined in the Radiation Safety Manual.
