Laborer III-Solid Waste Collector . 4202 MUST POSSESS CURRENT CDL

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: performs difficult semiskilled work operating a variety of trucks, tractors and or other light to medium motorized equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Limited supervision is exercised over assigned crew members.

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.

ESSENTTAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Operating various trucks, tractors, front-end loader, mowers, recycling truck, backhoe and related light and medium motorized equipment.
Operates recycling truck; collects recyclables and yard waste; unloads vehicle, washes vehicle; responds and resolves complaints;
Operates dump trucks, refuse collection trucks, font-end loader, backhoe, tractors, mowers, and other light and medium size equipment;
Ensures proper maintenance of equipment; cleans and checks equipment after use; performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; performs required labor involving construction and maintenance of sidewalks, asphalt overlays, drop inlets, trenching, water and sewer pipelaying, etc.;
Helps maintain parks and cemeteries; plans and maintains flower beds; controls weeds; trims trees and grass; bushes; mows
Applies pesticides and herbicides; maintains small hand tools; Assists with funeral services; assists families; locates burial sites; marks-off graves;
Digs graves; sets markers and monuments;
Assists with snow and ice removal; operates snow plow and spreader;
Performs other public works, public utilities and park maintenance duties as assigned;
Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the operation and servicing of motorized equipment; thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; thorough knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of the work; skill in the operation of motorized equipment; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to detect signs of the mechanical failure of the automotive and packing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates'.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the operation of light to medium motorized equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: possession of a Class B CDL driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. May require CPR and pesticide applicator certificates.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $39,136.00 - $52,947.00 per year
