SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Reintegration Mentor supervised by Organizational Lead, submits mentorship notes weekly to Organizational Lead. Mentors must attend monthly training that covers trauma-informed care, restorative justice, healing-centered, resilience practices, grief and bereavement, peer-centered training. Will provide the social and emotional support to provide the returning citizen with the coping mechanisms to grapple with the social and emotional barriers that the returning citizen may encounter. Weekly check-ins, referrals to therapeutic services, and individual assessments will take place.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide mentoring and connect returning citizens to appropriate resources and comprehensive services that promote healing, foster life skills, and prevent high-risk/consequence behaviors that make them vulnerable to negative outcomes
- Assist with travel logistics to court hearings, therapy sessions, job interviews, or any other appointment that ensures successful reintegration, including providing transportation to and from appointments as needed and/or transportation supports (CTA/PACE/Metra cards)
- Assist Case Manager in providing participants with wrap-around services for education, workforce, family reunification, mental and physical health, housing, etc.
- Mentors should have a strong outreach approach that consists of non-traditional, proactive approaches
- Mentors must have experience communicating with returning citizens and build trust to engage them in services
- Mentors will be responsible for providing services directly or making referrals for services for returning citizens (organization name, primary contact person, contact information, time/date of appointment or screen, follow-up expectations)
- Participate in organizational annual events including but not limited to the Puerto Rican People’s Parade, Fiesta Boricua, Three Kings Day, and Haunted Paseo Boricua
This position requires compliance with all of The PRCC’s written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, all policies and procedures, and Regulatory Compliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum two years of experience working with returning citizens in a human service setting, trauma-informed care, social service setting, or related field preferred
- Combination of training, education, or lived experience working/participating in a program or organization serving individuals who are system impacted
- Knowledge and/or experience of jail/prison environment and knowledge of the criminal justice system preferred
- Must have a valid Driver's License and an insured vehicle
SKILLS:
- Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred
- Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
LICENSURE:
- Certified peer support specialist preferred
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associates Degree preferred with coursework in Social Sciences, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field
- Combination of training, education, or lived experience working/participating in a program or organization serving individuals who are system impacted
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
OSHA Category 3 – Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues are not a condition of employment.
