Recreational Therapist (1 FTE) - Immediate Start at Kildeer Countryside School District 96
The Recreational Therapist is a full-time, 11 month position, certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). The ELC is located in Vernon Hills (Lake County), Illinois; is a special education cooperative providing services to students identified with special needs, ages 3 through 22 years of age. The ELC represents Kildeer Countryside Community Consolidated School District 96, Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103, Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125 and Fox Lake District 114. The ELC serves eight elementary schools, four junior high/middle schools and one high school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Use of a variety of modalities, including arts and crafts, drama, music, dance, sports, nature, games, and community reintegration field trips to help maintain or improve a student's physical, social, and emotional well being.
• Knowledge of recreational therapy practices, methods, and techniques.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional discretion.
• Effective oral and written communication skills with a variety of professionals.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy or related field.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) (Preferred).
• Must be physically able to provide therapy to students ages 3 through 21 years of age.
• Ability to travel within the member districts of the ELC.
• Pediatric and special education experience (Preferred).
Essential Job Functions:
• Create treatment plans and programs that meet student's need and interests
• Plan, implement, and evaluate interventions and therapeutic recreational. programs/activities for an assigned caseload of students.
• Develop a variety of games and activities to engage student in therapeutic activities, such as games and field trips.
• Help students learn social skills needed to increase independence.
• Record and analyze a student's progress.
• Support students in leisure and recreational activities that will increase their abilities within the community setting.
• Provide updated student progress to the IEP team.
• Collaborate with a variety of personnel within the special education division, including related services and support staff.
• Participate in IEP or evaluation meetings when appropriate.
• Evaluate and document student responses to interventions.
• Modify implemented interventions as needed based on student response to intervention.
• Ability to work effectively with all members of the educational community.
• Effective oral and written communication skills with a variety of professionals
• Ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Assists in developing protocols, treatment guidelines, education materials and specialized programs for students.
• Develops a therapeutic intervention plan based on observations, tests and other information, evaluates students' participation in program activities and progress towards established goals and objectives and documents response to various treatments and activities.
