Full Salary Range:
$63,011 - $112,756 Annually Hiring Salary Range: $63,011-$82,909

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm; with occasional weekends and evenings depending on facility/program needs.

Brief Description of Work:

We are seeking an experienced and creative individual to lead, manage, and provide operational oversight for City recreation programs; including 10 community recreation centers and specialized facilities including Xperience at Caldcleugh Center, Al Lowe Boxing Club, and Folk Center. The primary job function of this position is to supervise and manage facility coordinators and recreation center staff as diverse recreation programs are provided to meet the needs of the community.

Responsibilities and duties will involve supervising the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of a variety of recreation activities.

Duties also include:

  • Program and Operations Oversight: Direct, coordinate and review the work plans for recreation programs; assign work activities and projects; review and evaluate services, programs, methods and procedures and develop revised policies when necessary; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Budget / Financial Management: Participate in the development and administration of the recreation program budget; forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary; oversee financial policy compliance within assigned section; coordinate the preparation of responses to audits. Identifies and develops grant applications and sponsorships.
  • Staff Management: Select, train, motivate and evaluate recreation personnel within section, including 16+ full time employees, over 100+ hourly employees, and volunteers; provide and /or coordinate staff meetings and trainings; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Customer Service: Engage with the public and patrons regarding a wide variety of issues; lead problem solving, troubleshooting, and responsiveness to incidents and issues; develop and implement customer service trainings; negotiate, develop and implement partner agreements for recreation programs; visit facilities regularly to engage with staff and the public.
  • Training, Professional Development, Administrative Support: Provide complex support to and reports for the Community Recreation Services Division Manager and departmental leadership as needed; participate on and/or lead a variety of committees comprised of internal and external stakeholders; prepare and present staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate and necessary. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of recreation administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The selected applicant must possess exceptional communication and organizational skills to ensure the highest level of customer service and responsiveness; create and maintain a positive, safe environment for staff, stakeholders, and participants; and effectively lead a professional team in the creation of diverse recreation opportunities for all ages leading to sustained and increased facility utilization and community impact. Critical thinking and conflict resolution are also important parts of the role. As the City’s recreation centers operate on a schedule spanning 6-7 days per week and also may be activated in cases of inclement weather, the individual in this position is required to be available for call-back work as necessary.

This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 4-6 years of experience in managing a recreation center or similar related facility
  • Valid Driver’s License “OR” reliable means of transportation
  • 4-6 years of experience in developing/coordinating recreation programs
  • 4-6 years of experience in supervising staff
  • Prior computer experience using Microsoft Office suite programs
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification “OR” ability to obtain with required within 6 months of hire


An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications)
:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Exercise/Sports Science, Sports Management or a related field
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification
  • Experience with developing and managing budgets
  • Experience with recreation management software (RecTrac)
  • Experience with summer camp management and facilitation
  • Bilingual
