Recreation Specialist - Sportsplex

JOB SUMMARY: The Recreation Specialist is responsible for effectively developing and implementing successful recreation sports leagues, programs and events in addition to oversight of assigned facility operations as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Position is responsible for planning, coordination, implementing and evaluating recreation programs, sports leagues, classes, events and tournaments and ensuring the safe operations and coordination of facility usage and programs. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Ensuring for the quality execution of programs and events and safe operation of facilities.
• Developing up to date program and event plans that meet the needs of the community inclusive of a variety of interests and demographics.
• Ensures for quality customer service and satisfaction.
• Recruits, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates part-time staff. Tracks all employee hours for the facility, programs, events, classes and leagues and ensures the accurate completes payroll reports.
• Oversight of cleanliness and facility set-up and take down for programs and rentals.
• Coordinating facility rental contracts effectively and ensuring for patron satisfaction and safety.
• Develops and implements effective procedures in accordance with department directives.
• Prepares proposed expenditures and revenue for programs, events and facilities and efficiently tracks current budget implementation to determine cost savings and best use of funds.
• Manages or assists in managing concession operations and tracks expenditures and revenues monthly.
• Prepares and promotes programs through city web site and social media; press releases to media; assists in the development of informational brochures and newsletters, flyers and public presentations.
• Recruits sponsors for programs and events.
• Supervision of facility rentals, including sports tournaments.
• Processes purchase orders, requisitions and receiving reports.
• Develops and assists in the budget process including both operational and capital budget items.
• Assists with facility management.
• Responds as needed to after-hours calls.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

• Skill in organizing and planning recreational programs.
• Knowledge of sports rules and current trends in recreation.
• Knowledge of food management, concession operations and health code regulations.
• Knowledge of facility operations, safety and cleanliness standards.
• Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
• Skill in the operation of computers and various software programs.
• Skill in public speaking.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Knowledge of risk management procedures.
• Skill in managing personnel.
• Knowledge of child labor laws.
• Skill in accounting, bookkeeping and budgeting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Sport Management, Recreation or closely related field is preferred and three (3) years related experience.
