General Description
The primary responsibility of the Recreation Lead Instructor is to provide quality programs through the planning, organization, and supervision of their daily/weekly programs at the various recreation sites throughout Middleton, WI. The Lead Instructor works under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, Assistant Director, and/or the Recreation Supervisor.
Daytime, Evenings & Weekends hours available. Hours may vary depending on program need.

Job Functions
- Be 30 minutes early to prepare for the program.
- Maintain accurate records of class attendance - usually for questions from parents, ease of running activities, and maintaining an accurate head count.
- Prepare lesson plans, in advance, for the program.
- Be prepared with proper attireand footwear.
- Review program area, equipment, and materials. Remove any hazardous items.
- Set up area for program and make sure all surfaces are clean and restroom and water facilities are available.
- Demonstrate the activity skills in a professional and understandable manner.
- Communicate with parent/guardian of participants as needed.
- Maintain an effective, cordial and friendly attitude (refer to general rules).
- Know and be able to executethe plan in case of emergency or inclement weather.
- Always provide a safe environment for participants.
- Inform the Recreation Supervisor of any accidents or injuries and complete accident forms when necessary.
- Provide constant supervision of all participants and ensure the activity and its participants are never left unattended.
- Always enforce and follow program, department, and facility rules.
- Supervise your participants until they have left the program andhave been returned to their guardians -no participant should be left unattended.
- Supervise, direct, and work closely with co-workers in a professional and friendly manner. Work together to problem solve and provide exceptional programs.
- Provideformal andinformal evaluation to Assistant Instructors/ Instructors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Recreation or RecreationSupervisor.
- Store equipment in the proper area in a clean and organized fashion.
- Report lost or broken material and equipment to the Assistant Director of Recreation or Recreation Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Minimum age of 18
- Experience in teaching area or related field
- Desire to teach
- Experience working with children
Education, Training and Experience
- Must be First Aid/CPR Certified or obtain prior to first day of programming
- Pursuing a degree with major course work in Recreation, Social Work, Education, or closely related field preferred.
