RECOVERY COACH

Reports to: Program Coordinator

OVERVIEW

The Recovery Coach supports others in recovery from substance use disorder. They serve as role models, mentors, advocates, and motivators to recovering individuals to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Recovery Coach shares their personal recovery experiences, demonstrates to others that recovery is possible, develops authentic peer-to-peer relationships, and works with others to support their recovery goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide recovery education to participants for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Work one-on-one with the individuals to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths, barriers, and help them develop their own plan for continuing and advancing their recovery, including those in traditional marginalized groups.
  • Promote self-advocacy by assisting recovering persons to have their voices fully heard; their needs, goals and objectives established as the focal point of rehabilitation services.
  • Promote linkage and retention of participants using Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) as a recovery pathway. Use numerous resources to encourage continuation of recovery including community partners, substance use disorder treatment websites, barrier relief opportunities, and other recovery support services.
  • Monitor participant progress even after discharge from partner agencies to prevent treatment interruption and continue services.
  • Maintain project logs, reports, and records in appropriate files and databases to meet funding reporting requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information.
  • Model the possibilities of recovery to a diverse population, including those in traditionally marginalized groups, by sharing your story and being a positive influence.
  • Maintain positive relationships with community groups, partner agencies, funders through adherence to Voices of Hope policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Participate in group meetings, trainings, and advisory groups in the development of programs and opportunities to improve recovery services.
  • Lead mutual aid meetings as directed with various participant populations.
  • Suggest procedural and policy changes to improve operational efficiency and increase opportunities for diverse populations.
  • Be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Be able to lift approximately 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with the addiction recovery process.
  • Knowledge of opioid use disorder and medications for opioid use disorder
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly and independently learn recovery and harm reduction cultures
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and uphold cultural humility principles.
  • Ability to record data and complete documentation within established guidelines.
  • Familiarity with support services, resources, and diverse recovery populations.
  • Ability to work with individuals in various settings including one-on-one, groups, community, and incarcerated settings depending on the grant.
  • Demonstrated skills in active listening, motivational interviewing, and leading by example.
  • Understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures and maintaining an inclusive approach to recovery.
  • Bilingual a plus

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the use of various databases.
  • Complete and maintain Kentucky Certified Peer Support Specialist (grant specific)
  • Complete and maintain Recovery Coach Fundamentals (Employer provided)
  • Complete and maintain SMART and SMART Family and Friends training (Employer provided)
  • Be able to complete I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification
  • Be able to complete a background check (prior convictions may not necessarily disqualify an applicant)

HOURS

Typically Monday through Friday day-shift

TRAVEL

Reliable transportation is required
