Responsible for the Institute of Child Development's medical records at the Don Imus, WFAN Pediatric Center, maintains files in one central location, and assists with all general support staff duties.


A day in the life of a Records Coordinator, ICD at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Responds to the requests for records from the Board of Education, physicians, hospitals, agencies, individuals, locates charts, and photocopies appropriate reports.
  • Files incoming medical records, telephone contacts, and therapy notes in patient's charts.
  • Locates patient charts for staff members.
  • Organizes and maintains all inactive and active therapy charts, and files them appropriately.
  • Coordinates the purging of designated files, arranges their shipment to archives maintains location of archived ICD charts, and retrieves ICD charts when requested.
  • Provides diagnostic information to the insurance companies for reimbursement purposes.
  • Trains assistant in record's room to perform various tasks.
  • Obtains information for clinicians through computer when needed.
  • Translates clinical evaluations, therapy sessions, notices and letters, and conferences with parents/guardians and school personnel as needed.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

Contacts:

  • Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients and visitors.

Working Conditions:

  • Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 15 lbs. and stands a minimum of 2 hours a day.
