Position Overview

Join us in the summer of 2024 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking proactive and detail-oriented Recording Engineers who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As a Recording Engineer, you’ll play a major role in providing audio recording, mixing, editing, and mastering services for Interlochen Presents productions. You will set up and record/mix for concerts and recitals, studio recording sessions, mix live-to-stereo for various IAC webcasts, and assist the Senior Recording Engineer with live simulcasts (on the ICA website and on Interlochen Public Radio) of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra and also the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. You will also have access to our two Walters-Storyk designed Control Rooms at the Music Center and IPR (featuring full-range monitoring from ATC and consoles and control surfaces from Yamaha and Avid) for postproduction and critical audio work.

Experience and Skills:

What You Need

  • Availability 6/10/24-8/5/24
  • Prepared to live in a dorm or nature cabin setting
  • Strong working background in classical music and a solid theoretical and practical understanding of the concepts, microphone techniques, and technology involved in classical music recording, editing, and production
  • Ability to utilize advanced audio recording, mastering, and editing techniques
  • Ability to set up, calibrate and operate studio recording equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of analog and digital signal flow
  • Knowledge of systems analysis, system software, and computer hardware (ProTools and Wavelab 9 Pro are our primary Digital Audio Workstations)
  • Familiarity with Dante and Dante Controller (At least Level 1 certification recommended)
  • Familiarity with Yamaha digital production consoles (DM1000, 02R96, QL-1), Behringer X-32, and Avid S6 control surface a plus
  • Able to manage calendar and work assignments during very busy schedule with minimal supervision
  • Maintain a service-oriented attitude with faculty and staff
  • Efficient at multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative, creative spirit is a required
