Summary
The Institute for Social Research (ISR) is the world's largest academic social science survey and research organization. We are a leader in developing and applying new social science methods, and are committed to educating the next generation of social scientists. We are seeking an engaging and approachable receptionist with excellent customer service skills for our Thompson Building location. In this role, you will greet and direct visitors and provide basic administrative and office support to various offices within the institute.
Responsibilities*
Duties in this role will include:
Reception (60%)
- Provide excellent customer service as the first point of contact for the Institute for Social Research. Actively seek ways to assist people. Provide and convey general information about ISR and UM to others effectively and clearly.
- Act as primary reception, greet and direct staff, visitors and facility workers throughout the building; receive and distribute phone calls from the main Institute line. Receive packages and notify ISR Mailroom for distribution.
- Triage questions from visitors to the appropriate office. Typical requests may involve building access, directions to laboratories or events, and inquiries from news agencies.
- Maintain a safe and clean reception area.
General Office Support (40%)
- Provide professional office/administrative support to a variety of constituents. This includes but is not limited to Communications, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Human Resources and the ISR Director's Office.
- Duties will include but are not limited to scheduling, event support, meeting minutes, filing, mailings, minor facility operations, and records management.
- Strong attention to detail and high accuracy.
Required Qualifications*
- Possess excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills with all levels of constituents while operating in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interact with a diverse population.
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently.
- Adhere to a high standard of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability and flexibility.
- Exhibit a professional and positive image.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Computer skills - proficient in both Microsoft Office products and Google Site, especially email, shared calendaring and other collaborative applications.
- Record of excellent attendance and timeliness.
Work Schedule
Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm in the ISR Thompson building, with an hour set aside for lunch. Remote work is not applicable to this position.
