Summary
The Elementary Education Literacy Student Aide works one-on-one or in small groups with elementary students to support their literacy development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Help children develop and improve their literacy skills by providing supplemental instruction to students who struggle with reading and writing.
- Work to engage reading, writing, speaking, and listening to strengthen all components of a child’s skills.
- Upon request and direction of the classroom teacher, the Literacy Student Aide will use the teacher’s individualized learning objectives designed for appropriate learning activities.
- Exhibit appropriate and professional behavior at all times.
- Are responsible, dependable, and punctual in their duties, in the completion of assigned tasks, and in notifying the appropriate staff personnel when conflicts or problems occur.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate significant knowledge in early childhood education and advanced communication skills, typically confirmed by two professors.
- Be a current Saint Xavier University student, with a 3.0 GPA.
- Possess analytical and advanced communication skills in order to evaluate and articulate appropriate suggestions for the elementary students’ improvement.
- Be able to work with elementary students in a manner that is encouraging and which fosters confidence and enthusiasm to increase knowledge of literacy.
- Be able to work independently and to take initiative in fulfilling their responsibilities.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and ease in relating to elementary students from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds with various levels of skills and abilities.
